Just tipped my rifle upside down cleaning it after shooting and out falls a tiny head off of the Talley base Fml! What should I do? Leave it be? It’s just the tip lol

I would take it to a gunsmith to get it out that way you can keep from messing up your action. The other option is a left twist drill bit and be very careful lol.

I've learned the hard way that I'm not steady enough. A gunsmith might be able to do it right at that moment for a few bucks (likely more but you never know). Better safe than sorry.

This is a brief summary of what I would do:

Remove everything from the rifle.

Put it in a Bridgeport milling machine vice with 2 layers of butchers paper.

Place a screw in one of the holes and locate that hole.

Move to the broken screw. (Calculation is necessary here...)

Use a LEFT-HANDED carbide end mill and mill out the old screw.

Run a flat-bottomed tap in the hole to make sure you have clean threads.

Replace everything and used new screws.

If you don't have the knowledge, access to the tools, or the machine...just take it to a gunsmith and pay the piper.

Just got this thing back from the gunsmith they swapped the barrel I wonder if when they put the vise on and torqued that barrel off that’s what popped they head off? It’s definitely not loose I’m tempted to leave it be for awhile.

If the head popped off there is likely screw sticking out above the action, the base would have a flange below the head to hold the base on. I've always been able to grab them with pliers and twist them out after drilling heads off base screws.

take the other base screw off, remove the base, remove the threaded stub, put in 2 new screws and get back to shooting. Going forward with it half-screwed on is asking for problems.

No I haven't taken anything apart. when the screw head is seated in the base it is flush, so the head is now broken off there is nothing I see that can be grabbed with pliers it is well under flush

If you remove the base, you should have minimum 1/8" of the bolt sticking up out of the action. Pliers on it and it should spin right out.

Then get new fastners, remount the base.

If the base is flat- I could see that working. But most of mine are concave- how would you get it off?

Take the base off and you should be able to grab it with pliers. Needle nose vise grips clamps damn tight work best for this sort of thing. Get a new screw and properly torque them with a torque wrench when reinstalling.

Cute screw head but not what we needed to see. Let’s try again. Take the base off. That means unscrew the other screw and take the black thing off of the rifle’s action. What you should see is the remaining screw stud sticking up from the receiver (the part of the gun). Carefully put a pair of locking pliers (vice grips), narrow nose if you have them, on what’s left of the screw stud and twist it counter clockwise.
