Talk me out of buying a new rifle?

DM we can discuss. I am just north of you and you can come up and see my set up. I am in a similar boat. I want a sub 7.75 lb rifle. I don’t think it is possible unless you give up a dialing scope and factory stock.

I am chasing the weight due to a ruptured disc. I just bought a used 6.5 CM Tikka super light rough tech cut to 16”. I won’t make weight with my TBAC ultra 7 and S&B 3x12x42 Klassic if I go with the factory stock. I’ll be just over 8lbs. This means I need to drop to a Trijicon Huron saving 5 ozs or upgrade the stock at another $750 by the time I paid to get a Rokstock bedded. This is assuming I can even get one.

I believe the rifle needs to be 5lbs bare or you won’t make weight with a decent scope and suppressor. The weights listed on Eurooptics are off. You need to go with the weights on the Tikka website.

Once I add the 22 oz S&B and 4 oz rings I am overweight.
Looking at the stock I believe you may have a Roughtech Lite not a Superlite. They're listed at 6.6 lbs as opposed to the Superlite 5.94 lbs.

If you don't have your mind totally set on a Tikka (they're good rifles); the Kimber Hunter (also good rifles) weighs in at 5.5 lbs; removing the "gel" inside the stock shaves another half pound with about 20 minutes of your time and 0 cost. 5 lb bare rifle, less if you cut the barrel down.

Yep. I thought it seemed like a pretty good deal which is why all this came up. Pretty good deal?
Scopelist I think also had them same price .
Never liked the roughtech. Didn’t like the extra $500 for threads and a textured stock were worth it over the lites. But at $1000 it’s worth it.

It's 20" barrel and threaded, so wouldn't have to bother chopping it, but it's a weird thread pattern that comes with an adapter to make it 5/8. I think it's a good price which is what's killing me, I shop for rifles like a woman always "saving" money by spending more.

I am in a similar situation to you. I have a decent .30-06 for my primary hunting rifle that I really do like, but something a little lighter weight and lighter recoiling is appealing.

I ordered a Tikka Roughtech Superlite 6.5cm, 20" last night. Due to dumb laws in WA, I won't get it for a few weeks though. I won't be able to further justify it for you until then. Just know that you are not alone haha.

This will be my first suppressed centerfire rifle, so I am pretty excited for it. It's pretty tough to beat the clearance prices right now.

Is the PRC the only gun you own? If not, what else to do you have in your safe?

1.5lbs is not insignificant, but neither is $1000. $1000 just to get a 1.5 lb lighter rifle that shoots the same bullets slower, seems like a tough sell.

I presume if weight matters, its because you are hunting. What are you hunting?

If you are hunting deer, consider the Howa Carbon Stalker in 6 ARC. Its a bit less cartridge, but the gun is only 4lbs 14oz and is around that $1000 price point. (Though I will admit that the Howa Mini Action does not feel as nice as the T3x action)

6.5 Creedmoor is a great cartridge and that Tikka will be light. To mix things up, try shooting it without the can. It will be lighter and recoil will be mild. It will make it even more “different” than your 6.5 PRC.

Dammit now I have to buy another rifle. I should've bought the 6 ARC for my wife instead of the 6CM.

Solid points to consider. Hunting all big game in NA except moose as I'll never get a tag as a NR. Right now I have the 6.5 PRC that I love but it's heavy and feels heavy every time I pick it up, I have a beautiful Vanguard 6.5 CM that's a tack driver but I never shoot it because of the 24" barrel and I don't wanna have it chopped I'd rather put that money towards a new rifle I'm waiting for a chance to pass that down to a son or one of their buddies. Wife has a 308, 6cm, and a 223, and my youngest son still lives with us has my old 18" Bergara 6.5 CM. I do also have the 300 Wby Mag my father bought me when I was 16 but it hurts to shoot so it's just an heirloom now. Got a lotta gas guns too.

You and the wife can come shoot my 7.2 lb Howa Mini in 6.5 Grendel anytime. That is with a CAN. Private range on my property You just cover the cost of ammo. It should be very comparable to the 6ARC. At least she will know what the recoil would be like before you spend $.

Awesome offer thank you.

With that many Creedmoors in the house, I can see a solid argument to stick with the 6.5CM. The 6 ARC (in my opinion), seems a bit underpowered for anything bigger than deer, and (though slower 223 and 308 powders work) to get the most velocity out of it you need something a little to slow for most 308/223, but too fast for Creedmoors. (that is assuming you reload)

If you don't reload, then with all the Creedmoors in the house, you can likely make the math look like you could save money by reloading (though in reality you probably will just shoot more instead).
