I just picked up a Tikka t3x veil in 7MM for an Elk hunt in Idaho this year. I have exclusively hunted whitetails in the eastern hardwoods with a hand me down leupold vari-x iii on a xbolt in 6.5cm. I almost bought the LHD 4-14 x56 but im worried that size objective lens will effect my ability to get a good cheekweld. Whats some general thoughts on this situation?

I have both the 50mm and 56mm SHV’s and use medium UM rings for both. The 56mm isn’t currently mounted but no difference for me since I can use the same ring height.

The only issues with the nxs 3-15 are that unless you get very lucky they tend to be second focal plane and moa.

But if you can live with that, it'll be great

what i'm really looking for is a reliable 3(ish) to 15(ish) SFP scope with illum and ideally an obj lens 50mm or smaller.

I would try my hardest to steer you to ffp and mils but i will stay in my lane. If those are your specs youre looking for, discounted trijicon credo from eurooptic.com would be my choice for price, nxs is an excellent scope if the budget is more flexible.

Kind of talking to myself here now but I see the NX6 line was just shown at shot show. seems to be Nightforce's new hunter based lineup.

my goal in this optic would be for it to still be usable in the whitetail woods here, and while i could do that with a FFP realistically a SFP is just more ideal. I love the idea of one day having a true dedicated LR FFP hunting rifle but given my geography it's just not realistic right now.

Take a hard look at the new reticles. Me, personally, (which means nothing in your decision) would chose the MOAR 10/10 over the NX6 offerings. MOAR is by far from my favorite but again would chose it over the NX6

The NXS is optically average and heavy....but they were what built NF's reputation for durability. If you're not trying to resolve tiny details that require the best of the best optics....and can live with the reticle and adjustments....you're not going to beat the durability. Those things just seem to keep on truckin'.

The NF website says the SFP 3-18 comes with the MOAR

I picked up a used Trijicon Accupoint from a member on this site in 4-16X50. Love it.....I was actually looking at picking up the 3-18X50 model but the 16-power popped up in the classified so I grabbed it.

Not suggesting used however, every time I get behind one of my Trijicon's I'm amazed at the quality vs price aspect. I think I'm up to 5 or so and they've all been great.

Reticles are a personal preference but I like my(hunting) illuminated reticles clean, and clutter free. Duplex with fine dot, German # 4, etc.
Whatever glass you end up with, you'll have a nice rig. Congrats
