Talk me out of a NeoAir XTherm NXT

Sorry. Cannot talk you out of it. I just spent 13 nights in the Western Wind River Range on one. Loved it. Excellent pad.

I’m considering ordering a Zen Bivy Ultralight for some backpack hunts this fall/winter and just backpacking in general. What’d you think of yours?
I got the wide/long flex ultralight rectangular and it’s the most comfortable pad I’ve used so far. Cant speak to the regular ultralight though, but quilted is always more comfortable for me compared to other pads.

Is it the flex or flex ultralight? All i see on the website is the flex and ultralight but they are two separate products? Unless the flex ultralight is an old offering?

I misspoke it is just the flex, it’s 3oz heavier than the ultralight so minimally heavier for more comfort

Howd it perform? Durability good? I know you haven’t had it long. I’ll look into the flex as well! Pretty warm?
I upgraded from the flex mummy pad to the rectangular and used the flex mummy last season for elk. I was warm down to 20 degrees. I did get a hole but it was my fault, I was ontop of a piece of metal that tore through my polycro, tent floor, and pad. Big enough hole that it was easy to find and patch and the mummy had held up great since then. Decided to upgrade to the rectangular for comfort since I’m 6’3” and have used it two nights so far. Will be taking it for spring bear next month as well

I’ve spent hundreds of night on my neoair and subsequent neoair nxt after the first neoair blew away in a tent in Nepal. It’s great pad that strikes a nice balance between weight, warmth, comfort, and durability in my mind. Definitely skewed toward the light weight side though.

I’m between the neoair nxt and the zen bivy ultralight

Honestly I’m not sure what upside the zen will have. It’s 4 ounces heavier, 20 instead of 30 denier fabric so probably more likely to pop. I personally don’t enjoy pads with the dramatic surface texture that it has. Thermarest is probably shedding weight by using a Mylar insulation rather than a synthetic or foam that I imagine zen is using. That’s the only way I can imagine that thermarest is making a pad that is the exact same dimensions yet has thicker fabric, weighs less, and has basically the same r value.

Thanks for the insight i’m just weighing options rn, thermarest neoair xlite is at the top of my list but trying to see what else is out there.

Maybe they have improved the NeoAir XTherm with newer versions but I bought two when they first came out because it seemed everyone was raving about them....I tried to like it over several years of noisy/crunchy, uncomfortable nights.....eventually my hunting partner complained enough that all he could hear across the tent all night was me tossing/turning on that noisy pad. The next day he said "get rid of that thing and get the same one as me....." His was a Big Agnes Rapid SL ....I tried it and when that trip was over I went down to REI and bought one and have been sleeping waaaaaayyyyy better.....

I have am xtherm and its awesome but they're not quiet, and not the lightest or smallest. I used mine through the winter ice fishing to camp overnight and paired with a 0 degree chilkoot I never noticed the cold and I'm a cold sleeper.

Pros- warm, seems durable, relatively easy to blow up, the large wide size is huge which is great for an active side sleeper like me. For its size its very light, and for it's r value and size it packs down decent

Cons- cost, noise.

I have an Xtherm NXT (2 years old). Warm and comfortable (I am a side sleeper). Downside is noisy and slick. I use a quilt with straps so the slick part is fine. I have tried a regular sleeping bag a couple of times and can’t stay on it throughout the night. Slip right off when I try to turn over.

Few dabs of silicone on top of the pad will cure that slipping off the pad
