Talk me out of a NeoAir XTherm NXT

I have the ZenBivy Ultralight 10 degree sheet and quilt. Need a pad. I seem to sleep colder in my old age...

In addition to the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XTherm NXT, I am also looking at the Nemo Tensor Extreme Conditions Ultralight and the ZenBivy Flex Air.

I hunt rifle seasons in the mountains of Colorado.

Anyone a hard no on the XTherm? And why?

Mine arrived with tears on both front and back :/ will see if the replacement model is fine -- and overall does feel like thinner fabric than my exped so let's see how long it holds up.

Love the xtherm - older model. Complete game changer in terms of both r value and weight/size. Also more comfortable than older style pads. IMHO made every pad made before it obsolete except arguably a huge thick car camping one.

It's a little crunchier than my Exped....is all of the bad I can muster.

...thats all I got, I like mine.
I heard the newest model solved the crunchiness... anyone got intel on that?

Got the older version and the EXPED Dura 6R- Thermarest is a much better option for backpacking but if I'm flying in the extra width and height of the EXPED is a luxury.

Had an Xtherm from 2016-2024. It just popped a leak this summer and had a few blown baffles appear last couple years. It has not been treated nicely.

I’ll see if I can patch it, but in the mean time I ordered a new one. Only two nights on it, but the vent nozzle is improved based on my initial impressions, the pad is hardly crinkly at all, and it’s a half inch thicker than the old models.

I would say stay away from the Xtherm. It becomes hard to go with anything else with respect to weight to warmth ratio.

I'm kinda OK with @*zap* and @Loo.wii teaming up to derail my thread... ;)

I should have mentioned that we primarily backpack hunt. If we're moving around we will truck camp if it makes sense. Thanks!

Then its truely all you'll need.
I always like to have options so at some stage will look at the XLite or Uberlite for my summer hunting but for Autumn-Winter the Xtherm is always in my pack for a walk in trip.

I love mine. I've probably spent 30 nights on mine so far.
I run the regular wide and use a quilt on top it's an epic and i get a better sleep in the tent then i do backcountry huts.

So much better than the old gen xthurm and expeed syn7 mat i had before that.

Go lay on one at your local store. I didn't find them all that comfortable.

I have the Neoair xlite nxt max large and the zen bivy ultralight flex, and the zen bivy is hands down more comfortable. The only downside is it’s a bit heavier, but I’ll take good sleep over a few oz any day.

To me, exped ultra 7 is more comfortable, and quieter than even the new xtherm. The xtherm is lighter. Depends on what you value more, noise or weight and then personal preference on comfort.
