Talk me out of 7mm Rem Mag

I would use the Hornady 162 SST or Interbond before the Amax. My personal load is 70.5 RE-25 with 210M primer or 72.5-73.0 grains of H1000 with 210M primer and the 162 SST. My load of RE-25 is 2,950 fps and the H1000 is 3,050 fps with a 26.5" Krieger 9.5 twist barrel. I have no personal experience shooting elk with either bullet, but that is what I was recommended to use by guys who have. I'm sure the 168 Berger or the 160 Nosler Partition would work fine too.

Just got my new 7mm rem mag from Remington today super excited! Can’t wait to go to the range.

Lots of great choices out there and the 7mm mag is just so standard!! Personally I’m one for the .277 underdog so I’m trying to figure out a nice 270 wsm build for that exact same ranges. Basically 600 and less, light weight yet solid, pushing the 165 matrix and 170 Bergers around 2900-3050 FPS is the goal!
So this is my worry I rebarrel a .270 to a faster tube shoot the 165 and 170 or so, well am I gonna see the .270 recoil? Why do all this just to get a 7mm in the end? I'm in your same boat I just want an e dog revived!

7 mag with 168 bergers, just a kiss off my lands.... Never found a better more enjoyable combo to shoot personally. I laugh at the idea that its outdated...it flat out works. Accurate, low recoil, affordable and available components. Cant find a downside to that. Get you a 7 mag and dont worry about anything again...except the availability of retumbo😂😂

So this is my debate, 6.5 PRC vs .270 wsm with a faster tube as well as a 7mmwsm with a faster tube, where am I gonna get the most efficiency from? Recoil versus punch?

Just got twin Bergara B-14 7 mm Mag rifles for my sons. Steve West and Pendelton Ammunition set them up. They are last years models that Steve had ceracoted, new bolt knob, custom muzzle break, Burris Veracity 4X20X50 scopes and 180 Berger VLD ammo at 2784 fps. Shooting 0.5 MOA at 100 yards. I've have 3 Browning XBolts that I really like but man these Bergara's are sweet!IMG_1432.JPG

Anymore all I use is my bergara b14 wilderness hmr 7mm rem mag. It's heavy but daaaaang it shoots better then I can!!!

So I would never try to talk someone out of the 7mm rem mag. Best all around cartridge there is!!

Too many factors to answer this definitively. In general, the more overbore something is, the less efficient it is. Higher BC bullets help too.

7 wsm is going to have the most punch but it's also the biggest case with the highest BC bullets. They are pretty close in how overbore each is. 277 still lacks the bullet options of the 6.5s and 7s.
