Taking a 6.5 CM as my 2025 moose rifle

You are correct as I was dealing from memory on my phone. Once the scull dried I dropped a bit on the score and fell out of the final BC record book.
Sorry to hear that. A big bear is still cool to have taken.

I've decided to take my 6.5 creedmoor moose hunting in Alaska this year. I've got a 140 gr Speer Gold Dot loaded over 41.7 gr H4350 doing 2680 fps. Everything is zeroed and it is shooting great.

The hunt is next week and I don't have enough free time to work up a load for my 7mm-08, .308, or .300 Win Mag.

Happy to hear any opinions you might have or experience hunting moose with Gold Dots or this caliber.
I have a nice 53" Bull on the wall from a 2022 NWT hunt. The Precision Hunter ELDX 6.5 round did great. Dropped the bull at 200 yards and finished him off a few minutes later. Earlier that week it took a Sheep and Caribou.IMG_0830.jpeg

Not my first choice, but it’ll work so long as you keep shots w/in 200yds or impact velocities above 2200fps, and full broadside only. Any of those other rifles with factory solids would open up other shot angles. Bear spray works better for bears over big guns. The 6.5 is light, potable, and effective for moose (w/limitations), caribou, deer, and black bear. Have fun, good luck.

Velocity is just a hair under 2200 @ 350 yards.

Bear spray is a great deterrent, but I bet it makes skinning them a real bitch. I'll stick with a firearm when and where the season is open.

P.S. I learned from experience that bear spraying a charging moose can *really* piss them off. Never had to use it on a bear.
