Kids, folks that have never had the opportunity to experience the outdoors. Or certain aspects of it. Like hunting.
Those of us that have found out how great it can be spending time out in the bush, always real nice to see new folks learning. Kids that will never have the opportunity to go fishing hunting trapping, shooting sports hear adventures n stories about it. See pictures. But never get the chance
If you all get a chance. It's real nice to share that knowledge, experiences. There are certainly plenty of kids and adults alike that would enjoy any chance that they could get.
Anyhows, once I a while I like to remind folks how important it can be to some. Personally, the outdoors was my place. Just blessed to have been raised in a time n place where it seemed like everyone did this. Schools excused kids for hunting season. I always had a pocket knife in my pocket, school or not.

Id do it if I know the family and kids quite well.

I got into hubting because a neighbor took me under his arms. Otherwise I dont know if I'd even hunt without him doing that.

But, that was also 15ish years ago, and times have changed.

Times are very different. I’ve had some kids ask me to take them out looking for spruce grouse and while that seems innocent enough, I’ve told every one of them to have their folks call me if they want to go. I’ve never gotten a phone call.

I’m not sure I’d be super thrilled these days to have my kid walking around the woods with a 22 and some middle aged dude.

All things that never would have happened if they waited for their parents to take them. Now one of them has all his own gear including a rifle that I helped the parent’s pick out. Please elaborate what is weird about that.

I think it’s weird to take on the responsibilities that a father should.

I've taken so many young guys out for their first hunts. Their parents didn't hunt or didn’t care.

Haven't been able to for a few years, but I still talk to all of them.

One of those kids I'd have swore would've never made anything, is now the fire chief in a booming city here locally.

Along with several of the others, he mentioned he'd have never made it where he is if he hadn't seen how good folks acted and lived.

Well I guess it never crossed my mind that helping a kid learn more about the outdoors would be weird. Obviously folks would talk to parents.
Too bad society starts to think that well I don't know. I know what kind of person I am. And I enjoy giving things like fishing poles or tackle to kids. I've also had others take my kids out and was always appreciative. I just saw a van full of kids at a local stream fishing, thought that it was great.
Maybe I'm just overthinking things. The outdoors and all it has to offer, well maybe it's time to turn back the social stuff and think about what maybe someone who would enjoy the opportunity but never gets the opportunity might think about the issue.
Hey I'm glad that I had the chance to learn from every person that took the time to take me out and think back to how I still admire those folks. Good outdoors folks and I'll take my chances on being accused of being weird if it helps a kid out. Kinda think that's our job
