So im convinced, im done with Alaska game bags. Im going synthetic. For those of you who use either of these game bags could you tell me why and what advantage they have over the other. from what i can see the TAGS are a little more packable and a little cheaper. I plan on quartering out the elk like i usually do.

Thanks

I have and use all three, and will say that the old style of TAG bag material is the best out there. If you could get your hands on some I would buy them.

The new material they switched to a couple years ago seems to be identical to the Caribou game bags, so the only difference between them now is the reflective tabs and the craftsmanship. So it's an easy win for TAG bags. I have had nothing but problems with the drawstrings fraying and the drawstring closures breaking after one seasons use with the Caribou bags. I have had to replace almost all of the drawstrings with 3mm cordage and buy new closures. Not a fun way to kill time.

Curious, why the switch from Alaska game bags?

Because of the stretch of the AGB's, flies can blow though the material. Ironically, the first time I was told that they wouldn't make the grade was by an Alaskan guide. He was proved right on a bear hunt I used them on a couple of years later. If you use them, you need to hang them by the meat and not by the bag (to keep the bag material from stretching and letting fly eggs though), which is about impossible with boned meat.

I personally would go with TAGS, similar to caribou and a Rokslide sponsor.

TAGS BOMB Kit is for boned out meat and freakin tiny! So small and so light, I havent used them yet as I just got them but i cant wait to give them a try this season, appear to be good quality also.

I currently run Caribou but once they are done I'll get TAG because they are a sponsor and all reviews say they are just as good if not better.

Solitude....What MattB said. Eggs were getting laid on my meat. not alot but enough. Plus these are more packable.

I own both and both are equally top notch. You can't lose with either. I have the Carnivore set for boned out meat and 5 medium sized TAG bags for bone in meat. I have taken out a few bulls with the Caribou and two with the TAG. Neither have any real signs of wear which means that they have paid for themselves versus the one-time-use AK game bags I used years ago.

Sounds like the Rokslide kill kit is now the way to go.

TAG Bags for me. I've used them to pack out multiple caribou and moose, and a sheep over a course of 7 years and they're still going strong!

Not to mention you can't beat the customer service you will get with Larry!

I'm a little concerend about the size of the BOMB kit for elk? Does this imply a lot of cutting to get all the meat inside?

I just got my BOMB kit in the mail (thanks tags and rokslide!) and I am pretty impressed. I added a kifaru meat baggie to it since its my all time fav for back straps (and its only 1 once) but the kit looks great for a boned out elk. perfect size bags and incredibly compact. comes in a few oz lighter than the caribou carnivore pack and has more bags. hopefully I get to try it out on some bear meat here in a bout a month. great looking little kit

I'm using the same system this year. I doubt I'll pack all the bags though unless I'm elk hunting. littlebuf, have you put the BOMB kit on your scale?

Larry is great to deal with. I sent him a question via pm and got a very fast response.

TAGS BOMB bags are GREAT but as long as u bone them out. TAGS makes different types of bags depending on how you wanna pack the meat out. I used TAGS once, when I packed out a bull elk all by myself when I was 5+ miles back, and that was all it took. Those bags were so easy to use and as strong as nails. I'll never use anything else.

I was a little worried about the size of the opening on the BOMB bags because I'm usually by myself.......harder to get the meat inside a bag by yourself. But I got mine yesterday from Larry and will give them a go. Love how small and light the package is.

I used Caribou bags this past year and they worked great. No blood in the pack, they didn't fray, when I got home I cleaned them the way caribou said to and they look brand new. No complaints here. I can't say anything about the TAGS because I've never used them.
