I had a good run the last two weekends.
First off I got this nice 3x3 on a 3 hour spot stalk and wait game with him and his buddy. It was a 35 yards shot and that's about all he ran before he dropped.

Next was the 4x4. I should add the 3x3 was my first Mule deer buck with a bow after a lot of years of trying and this was my 2nd to date. I ended up driving 4 hours from home in a unit I had rifle tag to basically scout. It was 2 in the afternoon and I walked over 6 miles with not much luck seeing any mule deer. This was some really nice looking ground for mule deer but the whitetails seemed to be moving in the area. Any way I was out of food and water and wanted to head into another spot for the evening. luckily on the way back to the truck I ran into this guy, and to top it off he was in a great position for a stalk but he was feeding so I had to move quick. Within twenty minutes from first seeing him I got to 45 yards and put the shot on him.

Congrats! Both nice bucks....

How does SD do the tag system? Is it draw or OTC? How did you end up with two tags?

Archery are guaranteed tags just need to apply through the licensing office. Archery buck tags have 3 choices - an any west river tag,any east river tag or a statewide any tag. if you get the state wide tag you can only get one tag, but you can get 1 east and one west. Dividing factor is the Missouri River that splits the state in half. I get the east and west river tags each year. rarely fill both but I get them anyway.

Thats a sweet deal...

So as long as you hunt on either side of the divide you can have two tags. To me it makes more sense to just buy the two tags, then you have the statewide tag anyways, correct? Or does the statewide tag cover more than the east and west side?

Yes you would have 2 tags that would cover the entire state.
