I would normally go back over that slow with many, many passes to smooth it out. When im done in the duplicator, there isnt much time with 80grit. Very few tool marks.
Dude, if you consider selling roughed out duplicates, PM me. I'd love to get one, before your new business takes off and you get swamped!
 
I wanted to experiment with an extra blank for this season's NRL Hunter rifle.

Did a rough carve on the grip area, then left it (no shaping or sanding). It left an almost tree bark look. Feels great in the hand, obviously not as refined as checkering, but serves the same purpose.

Reminds me of my old maple baseball bats smothered in pine tar.

Pretty happy w this Dremel bit for stippling. More/random and slightly deeper seems to be more grippy.
