Looking to go to the Colorado TAC but am fairly new to archery. Is this something that I need to maybe push until next year when I can confidently shoot at long ranges or would it be a good opportunity learn more about archery and still shoot at shorter distances? I would like to set some goals for myself to be confident showing up but uncertain what that should be. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks!

Go for it. It's not a competition, just go shoot at whatever distances you're comfortable with and have fun. Take some cheap burner arrows if you're worried about breaking/losing them.

I have also been wanting to go to one. I was confused on if a guy could shoot more than one course in a day because when I was looking at the registration it required you to select a single course per day.

In my experience, they open up all the courses after a certain time every day, which gives you the opportunity to shoot multiple courses if you want to.

TAC is a 3D shoot on steroids. Just do it.

The difference between shooting targets own your backyard and a 3D event is huge. Up/Down shots on uneven ground is a great learning experience replicating the real thing. It teaches you to have a shot sequence or Shot Mantra.

Tip? Give a quick check of your level FD and Learn to pick a tiny spot on the animal.

Appreciate the replies, I will sign up in the morning and get some more arrows. I am limited to 30 yards at my local archery range but plan on doing some longer distances at another location, what’s a good yardage goal to be confident at?

Just practice on a 3d course if you can. Most of the courses aren’t tough. A lot of the target setups can be deceptive though.
Bring sunscreen for Colorado. We saw a lot of people get cooked last year at Purgatory. I guess there is a bit of irony in that 😂

Oh! Bring extra batteries for your range finder . Every year it seems I’m handing out batteries to people that have a dead rangefinder halfway through the course .

If you could get somewhat comfortable at 50-60 yards you’ll be set up solid.. Yes there are some targets past 100 yards but a good majority are around 50-60.

My wife had been shooting archery for 5 months. She had a fixed pin sight and ran out of pins at 50 yards and she had an absolute blast. She was asking me to sign us up for the following year before we even left the parking lot.
