Heard a story on the radio the other day about how T-Mobile is teaming up with Elon's Starlink to provide texting service anywhere you have a view of the sky. Makes me wonder if my InReach days are numbered?

What do you think is next?

This was announced by the man child musk as coming next year, so that likely means within 5…

Yes!! Cell technology sucks with needing to be practically within sight of a tower. The problem with the satellite system is the tree cover. In my area I can't do sierus, or xm radio because every time you go through the trees the radio stutters bad. Elon is smart enough he may have that problem fixed.

Out here T mobile is worthless once you're off pavement so it might be a good thing for their customers.

Huh??
I have a Verizon phone and T-Mobile, I work everywhere in the state of Wyoming. I use my T-Mobile phone way more than my Verizon phone because I almost always have service with it.

I was under the impression that star link was not portable. ie only works in one place.
so you could not take it anywhere you wanted.

InReach will probably stick around for a while even with this new Tmobile service. The dedicated SOS button and SAR support would still be worth carrying.
I will be keeping my inreach...T mo is building out the old spectrum VzW sold...yes it propagates better but there is limited band width in that spectrum, that's why VzW sold it and bought more 5G spectrum, so Tmo will work for a while till it's gets a bunch of users on the network then it's the service will be horrible, especially for data.

You can have Starlink for home or Starlink mobile. I have Starlink mobile and have used it all over the US while traveling and have used it at home. I can also pause the service if I don't want to use it for a period of time. It works great just need an unobstructed view of the sky.

I have T mobile, a T mobile hotspot, Starlink Mobile and an Inreach. No future plan to get rid of my Inreach.
