Switching to 12x instead of 10x?

Made the switch to 12× , never go back to 10x

Here in Arizona I used 10x on a tripod for 20 years before switching to 15s. Bought the 12x50ELs when they first came out and the 15s and then the 10s went down the road.
Still use 8x30s for elk in timber. Nothing beats the 12s in normal open country glassing in my opinion, and can be hand held when needed.

I hunted with just Vortex 12s and a spotter 2 years ago and did ok hand holding them if I was seated and had my elbows pinned on my knees...but after buying an outdoorsman tripod and pistol grip,,, I could NEVER go back to hand holding 12s like that. I often wonder how many deer walked by me unseen b4 I carried a tripod everywhere...

If SwarO made 12x42s I might try those Hoping to leave the 10s and 15s at home certain hunts,,, that being said.... I LOVE my SwarO 15x56 and they come EVERYWHERE, along with 10s on the chest...

I switched to 12X50 ELs last year and love them. Between Colorado oak brush and Arizona desert I never wanted anything else. They seem a bit much for archery in the timber but if glassing country is the approach I love them.

I have carried 10x42 Leicas at 2 lb, and 12x50 Leupold BX4 at 1.75 lb. I think now I am most likely to pack my BX4 10x32 Leupolds (17 oz.)and a Kowa 554 with light tripod (3 lb).

I went from 10X to 8X SLC's on my chest and never once regret it. Can't imagine using 12X on a hand held bin. Bit I know some guys like it. I think it has to be personal preference. I keep my spotter mostly on the tripod but also puy my 8's on it.

Did you know they were coming out with NL Pure 12x42 when you posted that? LOL

Lol I did not but I own them now !!! Hahah

I was on the wait list immediately when I heard about em.. have loved these NLs from day one.

For my chest binos, I have went from 10-10.5- to 12x now, I have some 8x as well that I got for archery season but never switch glass even archery hunting the coast… I willingly accept the downfall of glassing close in exchange for having the 12x when on a tripod trying to pick off a buck in a thick clear cut or whatever… it’s going to be personal preference

If it wasn’t for the NL, I would likely stick with 10x on my chest, but not giving up fov with the NL vs other 10x, I like the 12x in my harness

I’ve had 8’s 10’s 12’s and 15’s all in meostar. For me 12x and 10x were the most similar. If I had to choose one it would be 10x as the 12 does not reveal a lot more than 10 and was harder to handheld while moving around. I’m using 8s and 15s now I don’t see myself changing. Personal preference and the country your hunting will dictate what works best for you.

I took a new pair of 12x50 EL's in trade from a buddy of mine who is a Swaro dealer.

I hated them the instant I opened the box.

They are really clear, really flashy but because I have to wear eye glasses to see beyond my nose. I have to use them with eye glasses. There is not enough eye relief for me.

They are difficult to hold steady and I went back to my big Zeiss 10x56's.

I am not young enough to use them as a dual purpose.

Too far from 18 and too close to 10. I don't see the point.
