More like you got a golden egg. The UL’s always have have image degradation past about 7-8x. I have seen a couple dozen of them and they all have had it. Still a neat scope, but I don’t use them past 8x.

It’ll be interesting to see if the caps stop the sometimes .1-.3 mil shift from the turrets getting bent.

I was counting sheep last night and thinking through if I wanted to test with turrets first or the cover cap things first. If they both work, might even pull them off and the taped on vinyl cap to be a smartass to the naysayers.

I just bought one for a CZ 457 MTR. I really wish it had a mil reticle, it'd be so much more useful as trainer. Didn't want the fixed 10x because I'll also use this for squirrel and guess hunting and new shooters.

Hopefully they have ALL the 6x42s ready to drop and I can replace the UL.

I’ve never been that interested in the 3-15 swfa, I have a 2-10 ultralight and the glass quality leaves enough to be desired on the top end that I don’t really want more magnification. In my experience below 10x glass quality matters a lot less than above. Also as mentioned the cost is too close to buying another RS 1.2 or a demo SHV.

The fixed 6x scope is intriguing because it doesn’t have an equivalent on the market and the cost half as much as a 3-15. I’ll order a 6x as soon as they are available. I think I’m currently approaching 20 months on a 3-9hd back order.

I enjoy the 6x more than I thought I would. I hunted with it this year and felt it was plenty for reasonable shooting distances. I do appreciate something less when I have animals pop up under 100 yards, but didn’t hinder me terribly this season.

I’d buy that scope at twice what they’d likely charge for it if it was durable.

I think the glass would also need to be better. I had one on the gun I take out for that purpose and I didn't like it at 100y let alone a lot more. I'm still looking for that elusive lightweight durable scope that you're not also sacrificing image to a crazy extent and with a good hunting reticle.

Imagine how durable the SWFA scopes would be without that giant windage turret on the side.
It has to be the first thing that hits the ground on a right side drop.
Not to mention the added leverage of that sucker sticking out a couple inches.

Sure, it would probably help. But it isn’t as simple as swapping to a different turret design here. If they change to a low profile turret- that’s a completely redesigned erector system and probably a whole new scope design from the ground up… and you can kiss $300 and $600 scopes goodbye.

The reason that there is a quality, generally very reliable and durable scopes for $300/$600/$700 is precisely because they are simple and the design is long ago paid for.

So what's the "fix" for those of us that don't want a big, honkin' windage turret? Can it be replaced with a normal windage dial for sighting in?

Also regarding the weight of the 3-15x42, I emailed SWFA last night about it. They responded promptly this morning apologizing for not having it on the specs. It is 22.7 oz's and is now on the listing.

The scopes are Made In Japan per SWFA.

I wish SWFA well. I don't think it's a particularly good look to just bash on them. They've obviously had their issues, but I get the feeling they're trying, and these scopes really do fill an important niche. I'd prefer a 3-9X or 2-10X HD, so will wait for either of those. I used to talk with, and buy from the SWFA guys at gun shows back in the late 80's and early 90's and they were always super professional.

I have a feeling we'll be seeing more models as time marches on...

The power zoom is backwards on the 3-15 that’s f-ing stupid as heck.
Why make a damn scope backwards of everything else produced?

With there lack of support I have lost faith, if you order a scope you should order 2 so you can warranty yourself.

They have shown so little support that I should probably eliminate my two 5-20s

I like that it’s a regular duplex. I wish it had more magnification.

I've had a UL, 6x, 10x, 3-9hd, and 3-15. I have never been disappointed in the optical quality and never been or felt hindered by the optical quality.

They aren't cool to look at but they usually work.
