SWFA 6X vs 10X vs 3-15

Far as I can feel like I can hit them, which could be 7 or 800 yards if I felt like I could do it. I'm self-limited to 250 yards though.

The rifle is my only .223 with a scope, so it's getting the 10x SWFA because I have it, and that's what I want to practice with. I just deer hunt with it because it's my only rifle with a can, and it's fun. I'm not actually concerned about it, if I lose a deer because of it it won't be any big deal. I know a fixed 10x isn't ideal for what I'm doing, but its on the rifle I want to use.

I agree with your line of thinking.

Availability matters.
10x gets it done.
6x would be better. No doubt. But sold out.
3-9x is definitely a better scope than the 10x. Also sold out.

But until the next shipment from Japan comes in, the 10x isn’t bad enough to recommend something else. Especially if someone already had it on hand. And especially at its price, weight, and durability.

I definitely would prefer and will eventually get a gen 2 3-15, I like my gen 1 3-15 a ton but it's on my other rifle and not coming off. Unfortunately I have too many hobbies and rifle scopes are playing 2nd fiddle to pimping my boat out.

I see how the 10x would be incredible on a rimfire. I had it on my .22 for a few days. It looks silly but parallax down to 10m makes the magnification nice to have when you're trying to shoot a one hole group. Likewise, I think the 10x would be spectacular on a rifle that doesn't see its primary use case as 50 yards and in.

The close focus is awesome for 22 and for indoor dry fire practice.
Plus when you consider that NRL22 puts a $1650 cap on the msrp of the rifle and scope combo to be able to compete in the Base div, the $350 10x really seems compelling

I do know of a guy who likes elevated see through rings so he can use irons or his scope. Not sure how reliable that setup is. I also feel the light a red dot throws off would impact low light shooting compared to a traditional scope on low power.

As a kid my dad and uncles hunted with pump and semi auto action Remington rifles with high rings to be able to shoot using irons or a 3-9x scope. They were primarily still hunting in close quarters and loved the ability to use irons at close range.

It's an intriguing setup, this guy uses a BAR. Similar ideology. He had no problem killing stuff.

3-15 SWFA is my favorite scope that I've ever owned but its a big fat pig. Gonna be like having a piece of iron pipe on top the rifle compared to that leupold.

That is a concern for sure.
Not sure the 3x9 will give me enough and i do like running at lower power.
Wish I had both to compair.

I don't know? I think it works perfect but I swapped one for a 6x for my girls since I have 6x on their 223's. The t1x 3-15 DA Mask and cci standard velocity or tac 22 is a great combo.

Do you think it feels like a fat pig or looks like it?

I didn't notice that but like I said I changed them to 6x's in 22 and 17hmr. Went old school and put a 6x Leupold on a friends's 17 and it's his favorite rifle he's ever had.

Planing to run UM rings on my .243 hunting rifle with the 3-9x and then pic rails on a .223 T3x and .22 LR T1x trainers so I can swap the other scopes around (6, 10, 3-15). What pic rails and rings do you like best? Would be nice to have the same mounting system on all rifles to easily swap scopes around but looks like the T1x dovetail is different and I’d prefer to have direct ring mounts on my hunting rifle. Another option is to have UM on the .243 and .223 and a different system on the T1x.

You can use the dovetail mounts or picatinny to easily swap between rifles if you'd like. Avoid a direct thread in ring like talley if you are looking to move around a scope.

I like the DIP rails on rimfires. My T1X is at my FFL. I didn’t have time to pick it up before this snowstorm hit. But that’s what I plan to use on it. I will probably use some SWFA or Leupold PRW2 rings with it.

For the T3Xs, I use the UM Tikka lows.

As for when they will be back in stock at SWFA, that’s anyone’s guess. Last year, they got a large drop of 6x at the end of June that sold out in a day or so. Then they got another drop at the end of July that sold out in less than a day.

The 3-9x didn’t sell out until Black Friday.

No. I would call them. They are in Texas. There are also a couple of threads around here where people have posted whenever restocks occur.
