Swaro slc is optically equal to Swaro el's, just a couple minor differences. The El range models do not have the field flatner lenses. You need to decide if you want 8x, 10x or 12x power. I personally hunt a lot of open sage brush flats and canyons with limited timber and I primarily glass off a tripod. I went with the 12x50 el, If you think 10X is what you want save some cash and get the SLC's you will be at no optical disadvantage.
I consider my optics like a spot light, I prefer a narrow beam illuminating every nook and cranny as I grid instead of a flood illuminating everything at once. If I was hunting a lot of timber or glassed free hand I might consider a 8x or 10x.
My next set will likely be a 8x32 or 10x32. If I'm going to pack 42mm, might as well pack 50mm gathering every bit of light to enhance every detail.
Something else to consider is field of view. Comparing the SLC 10x42 to the field of view 12x50, you are only gaining 30 ft with the 10x. You gain 108 ft FOV which is significant by going with the 8x compared to the 12x EL.
EL 12x50 Field of view (ft/1000 yds / m/1000 m) 300 / 100
SLC 10x42 Field of view (ft/1000 yds / m/1000 m) 330/110
SLC 8x42 Field of view (ft/1000 yds / m/1000 m) 408/136
Hearing great things about the EL range models, wishing they made it in a 12x50 el.
