I've had the 10x42 slc model and currently have the 10x42 el. Both great optics...........but having them side by side I see the difference between the el's and slc's. If u have the cash buy the best you can afford. For me that was the 10x42 el. As for weight and size this is as big as I'd want to go if you pack them around like I do

I have the 10x42 SLC's and they are pretty awesome. You will not regret getting them

12's for me and I have had 8 and 10's as well. I found the 8's weren't enough for distance and the 12's freehand don't handicap me for a quick look. If I'm really glassing though it will be off a Tripod from now on. Makes an amazing difference.
