Sincere question … does the OG 65 make your ears ring like the OG 30 ?
I doubt the sincerity of the question, but I will answer it as best I can.
Back in July, I fired the OG once without hearing protection, prone, in light rain, on an 18” 6.5mm Grendel, immediately after firing a shot with the same rifle with the Scythe on it. Under those circumstances, the OG made my ears ring.
Since then, I have fired nearly 300 rounds with the OG and hearing protection, using a 21” .270. And probably 1500 other centerfire cartridges using the Raptors and Scythe. And another 200 unsuppressed centerfire rounds with hearing protection in. I can tell the difference between suppressed and unsuppressed with plugs and headphones. It’s readily apparent. But, with plugs in and headphones on, I can’t tell any difference in sound between any of my suppressed center fire rifles. No ears ringing.
Since then, I have fired three unsuppressed shots without hearing protection. All three were from my muzzleloader while deer hunting (it took an extra shot to finish off one of the bucks I shot this past weekend). None of those shots made my ears ring. Not sure if it’s the excitement or the hats and hood I had on (military issue beanie with FROG hood over it, with blaze orange toboggan over that - it was 16 out). But only an idiot or a zealot would suggest that the OG is louder than a muzzleloader. Ears ringing is not a good measure for “hearing safe.”
I haven’t fired the OG 6.5 without hearing protection yet. And I probably won’t until I shoot it at a deer. The same will be true of my ZG 6.5 when it comes in and all my other suppressors. My ears are not precision test instruments. I won’t be using them to “test” gunshot sounds. If you want to do that, keep on keepin’ on. Not my ears, not my problem.
