Suppressors that disappointed you and why?

Yes, 30 cal and a 22 lr to start. Then add other bores as needed.
I did that when I made my first purchase, I was glad I did. In fact I’ve made probably 3 more purchases where I just added in a rimfire silencer since I was ordering anyways. I’ll be getting a few more even once the tax goes away.

I don’t know why, it always burns me more to pay the 200 dollar tax on a 400 dollar rimfire silencer than it does to pay it for a 1000 dollar one.

Anything rugged- I have a razor 556 and radiant 762. Dead air sandman s.

US OG isn’t super quiet, first OTB can I’ve used on a personal gun so I didn’t expect it to beat front of barrel suppressors. But it’s not the end all.

People can say what they want about pewscience but every can I’ve used or purchased that scored well on his ratings matched performance in hand. So I tend to see what performs well there before sinking more money into other suppressors.
I second anything rugged

I am up to 12 now and have a variety of 5.56 cans and 30 cal cans plus one 338. I am happy with all of them.

The ONLY one I am slightly bummed about is my CGS Hyperion. It is really quiet but I was hoping for a bit of recoil reduction on a heavy 6.5 CM. I was hoping to not have to reacquire the target after the shot. My heavy 5.56 AR15 with a Resilient Stacy's Mom is dead still when the round goes off.
Well over a dozen suppressors here, pretty happy with most of them but a few were poor choices:
  1. Sig SDR5 5.56 - one of Sig's earliest suppressors, perhaps their earliest. Sounded pretty good but 28 ounces is a LOT. Maybe not the greatest choice for a first can.
  2. Zev Kraken 9mm (aka CGS Mod 9 FS) - sounded great, but extremely gassy. Only suppressor I've owned that was physically painful to shoot due to all the gas and debris being spit back in my face.
  3. B&T Rotex-X A2 - loud and heavy. At least the ratcheting mount is fun to mess with.
I bought all three because they were too cheap to pass up. (I should have passed them up.)

No disappointing suppressors so far, I’ve had quite a few over the last +15yrs, but always went with models that had been released for a few years from the big names. I avoid the latest fad given the hurdles to buy and sell them. Some I no longer want around as they have simply been outclassed. My AAC SDN-6 comes to mind. It’s a boat anchor by modern standards but was amazing on an 8.5” 300blk in 2012.

Gemtech Tracker- not super disappointed in it, but the barrel restrictions are tough to deal with. I’ve talked with them about how they came to identify the restrictions and they said “well that’s what we shot through it”… no real testing is what it sounded like.
It’s very “dingy” hard to explain, but the sound is not “gentle” or “dull”
And the faster the bullet, the worse it gets.

I’ve been eyeing the otter creek labs stainless units, anyone here have one?

I have a tracker as well. In it's day, it was a decent can. The barrel restrictions are a little crazy. FWIW, I have shot the snot out of 22" 300 win mag out if it with 0 issues. Iirc, they say 24" is the minimum for 300 win.

I’ve shot it through my 24” 7RM and I can’t get through a slow 5 shots without CRAZY mirage. I’ve really wanted to chop the barrel down to 20”.
My 18” 6.5CM and 22-250 handle it fine though

Thats most any titanium suppressor in my experience. You need a cover for target shooting. I have a few from each company. LS wild's is probably the easiest and still effective enough.

Do you cover your tracker? I’ve read not to, but I’ve also read where someone was told they can handle the heat

First can was a TBAC ultra 7 gen 1 in 6.5 cal

Two months later they came out with the gen 2, and I wanted to build a 7mm...
