It seems most guys are cutting down to 18in to mount a can, is the main reason weight savings?

Long barrels 22-24" with a can are a pain to pack around.
Not horrible on the open prairie but definitely not great.

16" barrel with a can is the tatas!

I've got a 16" 22 creed, 18" 223 ai and the 6 UM is 22 but the new barrels are 20's.

Rifle balance and also to prevent getting constantly snagged on branches. Most my hunting is in mountains and it can be a pain when you have 24 inch barrel and add a can then your at 30 inches or so. The reduced weight is nice as well. Although its not usually much. Agreed its just unwieldy

My maximum desired length is 26” overall, but shorter is usually nicer. It’s just easier to handle when it isn’t as long. With that said, my most used rifle last year was a .25-06 with a 24” barrel and OG 6.5. I never had any issues with the 28” overall length. But I am much happier carrying a 20” barrel with a 4” suppressor.

They cut them down because they don't like hunting with a KY long rifle. The small weight savings is bonus. My longest suppressed rifle is 20" 300 winmag because I don't snagging brush when I hunt.
