I’m in the market for a suppressor to put on my 6.5 Grendel and have a few questions….

First of all, what is the smallest caliber suppressor that can shoot a Grendel round? I am seeing mixed things online about this. Some say 30cal, others say 7.62, or 6.5.

Second, I’m looking to get a suppressor that isn’t going to break the bank, but is also good enough to be able to shoot 300+ yards accurately. I used to run a Griffin Armament Recce 5 on a 5.56 rifle years ago in my professional career. Awesome can and good accuracy, but never pushed it past 200 yards since I was only running a red dot. Does anyone have any recommendations on a can that can be used for distance shooting that isn’t over a grand? I’m leaning towards sticking with that I’m comfortable with, being the Griffin. But I figured I ask for everyone’s opinion before I pull the trigger.

Thanks in advance for the help.

It is hard for me to quantify. It does reduce some as it is a full back pressure device. Its regular spot is on top of my 18 pound 6.5CM which does not have much recoil. It is plenty enough to be able to spot my shots out to 900yds.

I’m sure you know it has to be rated for at least a 6.5mm. But a 30 cal can on a 6.5 works vg and has the added benefit of working for smaller and larger bore sizes. For the $, in a 30 cal can, I’d see if Harvester EVO’s are still in the pipeline for close to $400 ish. There were some for under $400 a month or so ago from Capitol Armory iirc. Older design, moderate weight, and works well.

No expert at all. So many options it gets bewildering. I grew tired of waiting for a Sythe to come into stock, so ordered an EVO, now have both. The EVO works, the Sythe works more better with less weight. If I could not find a great $400 ish deal on an EVO, I might grab an AB-10 in 7.62. I see them for just under $500. There could be better options out there I am not aware of. I am new to the can game, less than a year.

If you get a 30cal can you can run it on most other guns. If you get a 6.5 can, one, there's not as many of them, two you can only shoot 6.5 and smaller but it SHOULD offer a bit more sound mitigation.

A dilligent enticer STi would be one of my top picks. Any decent can you find is going to be just fine. Don't get cute with muzzle devices and QD mounts and your accuracy and repeatability should be fine.

For a hunting can I'd recommend no longer than 7" and titanium to stay well under a pound of weight. The SiCo scythe is another good one or an AB Raptor 8. There are a ton of good cans out right now.

OP ^^^^ is good advice. I bought one of the Evo’s on sale and it works well.

Get a 30 cal can with a direct thread mounting system (no need for a heavy QD system). If I was buying today and cost was a big factor, I would get the AB-10 or an Otter Creek Polonium.

My next can will be a lightweight Titanium can like the Scythe or Nomad TI. But, they are nearly double the cost of a decent steel can.

Any semi-decently can manufactured to appropriate tolerances can shoot long range. There’s nothing different or special about the design.

In suppressors your really are paying for the weight and size. Typically the bigger they are (better suppression) the more $$ and the lighter they are (titanium) the more $$ they are.

There’s lots of options that will be more than adequate for you, but I’d hazard to say if you’re buying on value, low price/high quality, you’d be making a mistake to not go with a OCL can right now.

Before I sold my 6.5G, I used a Silencerco Omega on my 16” 6.5G AR. I shot several deer with it and had no issues. I used a 30cal ASR and attached the suppressor to it the ASR.

Harvester 30, had it for years. They are a slow fire suppressor made for hunting. has a brake on the end . Taken it 1200 no worries. I have run it with 6mm CM 7mm-08 6.5prc and 6.5 Grendel plus 300 Ham'r. and not to forget 308

My advice is not to go cheap on your suppressor. They are hard to buy/sell so saving a little money is not worth it.

I really like my TBAC Ultra 7. I use it on 6CM, 6.5PRC, 300WM.

I run it direct thread. Tried the adaptors and wasn’t a fan.

Griffin sportsman ultralight HD .300. Lightish, shortish, inexpensive, good suppression. And if you’re mil/le their discount program makes it a no brainer imo.

Great performance at a great price. The stainless steel version is a great bargain for what mby a 2oz penalty?

As to adapters I've been using the Area419 system and finding it to be totally repeatable swapping a can gun to gun and on and off the same gun.

If you buy a can like the Diligent Defense that has what's becoming a standard rear adapter thread 1 3/8-24 you can get all sorts of interchangeable mounting adapters from direct thread to something like the Area 419. The Scythe, Nomad Ti's both use that thread pattern as do many more.

At this point, I'll only purchase cans that use a rear HUB thread. I do not use QD devices but I appreciate the ability to swap rear caps for different thread pitches, really only between 5/8 and 1/2". At this point, to outfit all of my cans and rifles with mounts and muzzle devices I could buy two more cans. I've never had any issues with direct thread mounts and adding the extra weight and length to solve a problem that doesn't exist for me doesn't make sense. The only place I see a use for mounts is on gas guns.

For budget, an AB 7.62 A-10 is a solid choice. I thought hard about one, but ended up spending more to save weight on a Ti muffler instead.

There are some real decent choices in the sub 550 range that work very well. Other than titanium and lightweight I don’t see the point for spending 2-3x on a hunting suppressor. If lightweight is a priority and your budget can handle it or you just want to then for sure.

Go to silencer shop website look up 30 cal suppressors and sort based on price. I’d ignore the JKs.
