Suppressor for Bolt Gun?

GAP has a new lightweight/short suppressor out that looks very interesting. It doesn’t look like you should use it with 28 nosler sized cases though.

Nothing objective, just texted a bit with my buddy who works for GAP and he said it's all he'll use now on hunting rifles.

I do think the published minimum barrel length specs will hurt sales. 16" for 5.56, 20" for standard 308 sized cases, and 24" for Win Mag. Seems they might miss a bunch of people with 308/Creedmoor cases and 18"ish barrels. Compared to ultra 7 min specs of 14.5" 308, 16" creedmoor, and 18" Win Mag but at a higher cost, weight, and length. My buddy said my 22" 7 SAUM would be fine with the Jager.

Why? I sure don’t understand this recent trend in silencers on hunting guns. Call me overly traditional but I don’t get it. Someone enlighten me please. What’s the point?

It's always amazed me that a man made two inventions that did basically the same thing...today one is required...see how far you get driving a car without a muffler, the other takes 100s of dollars and a year to have the priviledge to use...makes no sense.

Still awaiting my stamp to be approved for my rugged radiant 7.62....maybe I get to use 2020 season.

Exactly, I am in the same camp. It’s less about me, more about the people around me that I care about. Even if it’s not the wife or kids, I started using one because my main hunting buddy complained about his ears ringing after a shot on a trip.

If you read around thunderbeast will be the gold standard. I have an ultra 5 direct thread in 6.5 for lighter shorter high country guns, then a ultra 7 30 cal that I can move around to all guns.

For a 1 and done can solution I would go the ultra 7 30 cal. But good luck just getting 1...

It took 6 months to get mine to ship from Thunderbeast.

What’s the point of the GAP one covering part of the barrel? Is there anything in the portion behind the threads that would make a difference for sound reduction?

Yeah I'm wondering the same thing? An issue I see with that is the ID of that section is only .750 which wouldn't accommodate some of the common carbon barrels.

I have a Silencerco Hybrid but if I had to do it over again I would go with a Thunder Beast Ultra 7. Singerworx Hunter is another option. They are crazy light and relatively cheap at about $600.

I can't find much information on the Stingerworx. Do they have a website? It seems weird that a simple google search doesn't bring up a link to their site. What I did see though looked interesting.

Apparently the Stingerworx website is down right now but a little bird told me it should be back up soon. Interpret that as you will but might be a red flag. I've handled them and they look like a quality product and I hope they continue to manufacture them.

I have a sig TI 762 with QD that I shoot on five different guns. The 6.5 is a blast. I would buy the sig again but if I were to buy one today I would consider a thunder beast after listening to the recent podcast from XO Hunt Back Country. If you are consider buying a suppressor I would listen to it. My sig is quite but I might consider a slightly shorter, lighter one that was a bit louder if I were to do it again, especially if you plan on backpacking with it.

I get what you're saying, I've thought about that too. I want something that is lightweight and maneuverable. However, why even spend the money if my can isn't going to be quiet. A heavy can is out of the question for this purchase, but I would be ok with one a couple inches longer. Right now the ones I was looking at was the TBAC Ultra7, Sandman Ti, and the Silencer Co Omega 300. Just wondering if there's better options I haven't considered.

Appreciate the Podcast recommendation. I'll be listening to that on my commute in the morning.

ThunderBeast Ultra 7 .30 cal. That is the only one you should be looking at. Yes, it’s expensive. However you will not be disappointed. You can remove it and put it on and many rifles as you want. Your zero will not change, no matter how many times you swap it around. Hearing safe on a 300 win mag. It light and will work on any .30 cal and below you can come up with.

There are over the barrel suppressors that have the majority of their volume surrounding the barrel. I'm not sure exactly how the GAP Jager works but I assumed it was some hybrid version of this where you still benefit from that extra volume.

I've got quite a few.Wouldn't think of shooting w/out one anymore.My hearing and 'multiples' on critters is reason enuf.
Have some old Gem Techs(Sandstone,Trek,etc) that are still going strong after years of use.Would likely go Thunderbeast now I think.
There are reasonably priced ones.I have a Mack Brothers 'Varminter' on a couple coyote rifles that is sweet.

Approximately 10Db louder then a TBAC Ultra 7. Wonder how noticeable that 10Db would be...Always a trade off I guess.

decibels being exponential, 10Db is significant and easily noticeable to the ear.

For your purpose I'd also go with the TBAC Ultra, probably the 7 or 9. Second would be the Dead Air Sandman Titanium, third would be a toss-up between the SiCo Harvester or Griffin Sportsman.

I have a couple TBAC Ultra 7s and SiCo Omega 300. I like them both. The Ultra 7 is a bit lighter but the Omega is and inch shorter. Both work great IMO can't really go wrong with either. I run everything as a direct thread myself.

Comparing the Ultra 7 and the Omega 300, can you personally tell any difference in sound? Also, does either of them adversely effect your accuracy?

Not sure where you live and how it works buying a can locally from a dealer out of state, but I am lucky enough to be in the Denver area and can drive to Mile High Shooting and those guys I believe are one of the, if not the #1 distributors for TBAC. I have bought 3 TBAC cans from them and have always walked in, they have what I need, do the paper work and walk out.

I also think TBAC keeps an instock type list with retailers on their website if you or anyone is trying to track one down, you can see who has what instock or on order. Could be helpful for someone.

I also highly recommend Mile High Shooting, but again not sure how the transfer and all of that works with the NFA suppressors...I’m sure it’s different than just buying a rifle and having it shipped to a FFL.
