I’m looking for a suppressor for an 18” 7mm Sherman Short. Looking at light weight (sub 10oz) and mid length (6-7”). I've read most of the reviews on here and the top options appear to be:

SilencerCo scythe ti- one of the shortest and lightest but also a few failures out there. Customer service addresses any issues quickly it appears.

Diligent defense enticer sti - gets good reviews for the price, but suppression on magnum cartridges may be a little lacking.

Dead air nomad ti xc - looks really appealing, but not in stock.

Otter Creek Labs Hydrogen S 308 - not many reviews out there, but appears to check a lot of boxes. Also not in stock.

Thunder Beast Ultra 7 - proven can that gets good reviews. Not in stock

Any recommendations or any others out there I should check out? Can the AB Raptor handle an 18" short mag?

I have a 20" Sherman Short and I went with a TBAC Dominus. I also had a 50% off coupon off a prize table. Without that I would have gone with the DD Enticer STi. My hunting partner went with a DD for his 22" 7RM and I really cant tell the difference between our rifles. Both sound great.

He was able to get Silencer Central to bring in his DD Enticer and get them to do the trust for free and mail it to him, even though it wasn't one of their cans.

I have the scythe, nomad xc, and Enticer Lti.
They are all great options.

Lately I've been shooting the nomad xc on a short magnum the most and it's really impressive. Right now I think it's the best all around can for hunting when considering weight and length and sound suppression

The scythe is still my first choice is I have to have the lightest and shortest option, but if a really small weight and length penalty is okay, I'd pick the XC.

If length doesn't matter, no question the enticer Lti is top dog when it comes to sound.

I'd imagine the nomad Lti XC would be right there with the enticer Lti as well but again, these are longer cans.

From your list above, I'd go Nomad XC or scythe.

I was running an 18” 7 saum with a scythe, long story short, the scythe blew up.
I wound up calling a bunch of places looking for a decently lightweight can for the gun.
Wound up getting my hands on a KGM R30, which after talking to the guys down there, they said it would be just fine on that setup.
So far so good, it’s 4 ounces more than the scythe but it’s more volume so it’s a little quieter.

Thanks for the suggestions and letting me know the Nomad TI XC was in stock at Bauer. I have one on order now.
I have the longer LTi XC it’s an impressive can and from what I understand the shorter Ti XC version for its size is equally impressive.

If weight is a big concern I think you can get a titanium direct thread end cap that is an ounce or two lighter than the one DA ships with them.

Which begs the question.. if companies are making these tubeless lightweight ti cans to minimize weight, why in hades wouldn't they cut the easy weight by doing this off the bat? I'd rather have a beefier built can with the lighter caps/DT hub inserts over the reverse.

Cuz accessories bro, more money. Stainless direct thread mount for free, pay for the high dollar titanium mount.

We would mostly be in agreement on that. I don't know if it's a cost thing or if there is some other specific reason DA doesn't send them out with a Ti direct thread end cap. DA's direct thread cap isn't particularly lightweight but it's a few ounces lighter then the Xeno/Omni setup they come with and the Ti one, I don't recall who makes it, is lighter then the direct thread from DA.

Don't rule out an AB Raptor. An 8 stack would do it for you. You can run it with or without the reflex portion that goes over your barrel.

I have the scythe, DD wolfhunter (S Ti with a 6mm bore), and the AB 10 among others. The S Ti would be my pick as a balance between suppression, price, and size/weight. To be honest, I'm not overly impressed with the scythe. Besides my 9mm mojave, it's the most expensive one I own too.

I didn’t know if the AB raptor would work with an 18” short mag. I thought their website said 22” for magnum. I emailed them but haven’t heard back yet.

Please update here when you hear back!

I have a raptor 10 and have fired it a bit on an 18" SAUM (with my reflex), but in the back of my mind I know what their barrel restrictions say....the AB length restrictions are very vague. I also read that magnums need at least the 2" reflex....but a spicy non mag long action is ??

3D printed cans are the future of all cans

Zero experience with cans of that type myself. But it is a superior manufacturing process once perfected

I was just going to get a rim fire can but I figured if I was going to do “all the work” I might as well buy everything I’d need first go. Anyways. I have an ocl 22, dead air lti xc, ti xc, and a scythe coming. A little redundant but I’m sure I’ll find some rifles for them.

How does the Wolfhunter compare to the Raptor 10? And what have you used them on?

My Raptor stays on my 300prc mainly because i currently cant get the reflex off the barrel 🤣. The wolfhunter is on my sons 223 since it comes with a 1/2" endcap and the Scythe has been on my 6 creed mostly.

The wolfhunter on the 6 creed is quieter at the shooters ear than the scythe and noticably quieter as a bystander. But my son has been shooting his 223 with me quite a bit so I let him use the wolfhunter. It's easy to keep that one rigged up for 1/2". I really wouldn't mind another one to dedicate to my 6 creed. I like it that much but I think my next will be a Cat Noah or a PTR Vent.

I've used the scythe on the 300prc quite a bit too. Not as quiet as the Raptor for sure but a bit smaller. The scythe fills the niche of lightweight and short for me. It's not really fair to compare it to the Raptor 10 due to the sheer volume difference.

The only one mine I've heard as a bystander is the wolfhunter and it's crazy how much quieter it is just standing a bit off to the side. It's extremely impressive.

I've used the Raptor the most because it was my first. 308, 280ai, 300blk, 30-30, 30-06, and everything mentioned above. The only thing it wasn't good at was a gas gun. Due to the number of baffles, the backpressure is stupid. I thought i broke my rifle the first 300blk sub I shot through it. I use my mojave or R9 for that.
