Suppressor for 16.5" 308

I have a few suppressors. My top pick is Thunderbeast personally.

Not looking to argue, but wondering what folks like so much about the TBAC cans. They seem rather middle of the road in everything except diameter and they are almost $200 more expensive than the next can I would consider. It’s approximately the same length and weight as an AB Raptor 10 without the reflex and not as quiet. And, the Raptor can fit the reflex if you want that option. Is there something I am missing about TBAC?

Thunder Beast suppressors are highly regarded by precision shooters and hunters. I like them for their exceptional accuracy, light weight, and minimal Point of Impact (POI) shift, They are manufactured with very tight tolerances. I hear a lot of failures of other companies. TBAC make very durable titanium cans.

I don’t have any with the reflex and don’t want any. I want ultimate suppression

According to Thunderbeast the ultra 7 measures 129db at the shooters ear so fairly competitive, I personally like to he 7x1.5 size. Is it the ultimate silencer? Probably not but it seems like most of them have pros and cons to them.

Sure, it’s competitive. No doubt about that. I just wonder what it does that makes people want to spend ~$180 to $280 more than lighter, shorter, quieter (or roughly the same) cans. At 129-130, it’s in a fine place. It’s going to sound half as loud as the OG, for instance. But it’s also going to sound twice as loud as the Nomad Ti XC or Reaper.

Again, not looking to argue. Trying to figure out what the numbers don’t tell me.

Part of its is the name, lots of it is that an ounce in either direction makes absolutely no difference. As for sounding twice as loud, I don’t know what to say about that. I shot my ultra 7 side by side with the nomad XC a few days ago and it certainly didn’t seem twice as loud. I was interested in to OG for a bit but being that it is louder and heavier, it seems like nothing more than a gimmick to me, seems like there’s a reason hardly any companies are going with OTB designs.

I don’t know man, you can geek out all day long with tech specs but at the end of the day, even a really shorty silencer is much better than not having one at all, while there are some stupid designs out there and some silencers that wouldn’t personally buy, the gap between the “crappy” ones and the top of the line seems almost negligible in my opinion, other than weight, there are some out there that are like 17 ounces.

Also edit to add: when I bought my ultra 7 it was still sort of the standard, and it’s been great. Like I said it may not be the best but it’s a solid choice still. Every time I look at my scythe I wish I had just got another ultra 7. The pricing is probably all in the name, when I got mine, it was 1080.00 (without the stamp) which is only like 80 bucks more than I maid for my ti xc and my scythe. (I missed the sales on both of those).

There’s always some trade off, the scythe is awesome but obviously we can’t trust them. From a sound/weight perspective it’s awesome. The TBAC, I guess it’s announce heavier than a ti xc which seems like a much smaller handicap than the scythe has.

TBAC has some weird fanboys though, I’m guessing that adds to the cost. I was wearing a TBAC hat at the Seattle airport and some dude approached me. We started talking he showed me pics of his TBAC collection, he literally had all of them and multiples of a few. I was like….i have the 7….

AB Raptor 8. For shorter, AB Raptor 6 or US OG.

AB, TBAC, or US are the only companies I would by a Ti can from at present. Perhaps Airlock, but I haven't looked into them enough and they are rather new.

I regret getting a Scythe. Resilient cans have also bown apart on reasonable cartridge and barrel length set ups as have Dead Air.
I’ve got two of them. Also an option View attachment 933315
Don't see many Ti cans with heat discoloration. Most would probably fail from that kind of use. So, nice testament to the US OG's toughness. Looks like you got those up around 600 F.

I certainly have never gotten my Scythe that hot. I did get my Raptor 8 hot enough that the silicone split and the coban over it started smoking. It is cerakoted though, so no pretty colors.

Some of that was me, but I bought the raw TI versions so most of it came as is during the printing process. Makes for a unique look

But firing a good amount of 6.5 PRC and 223 in a short time will heat up a ti can pretty quickly. I think that day I shot 500+ of 223.

I would always do direct thread on this type of application , and there’s a dozen of good 6-8” silencers that you would love . Every company that makes a tubeless welded baffle silencer has had one come apart . I’ll more than likely be buying 3d printed going forward . If you want a short loud silencer get an OG or raptor 4 .
Airlock will have a 30 cal available before long and if it’s like the 6.5 zero G it’ll be worth the wait
