Superdown Pro?

Hey all,

looking for a combo piece that I can layer over during whitetail season, as well as get some dual use out of as a camp piece as glassing option when I head west.

Wondering if the Superdown Pro would be quiet enough when layered underneath my Sitka Fanatic piece when whitetail bow hunting?

Layering it under a fanatic might be tough, bith pieces are fairly thick and you might end up feeling like tye stay-puff marshmallow man, or the ralphie’s kid brother from “the christmas story” when he “cant put my arms down”

Could you layer these togethet? Sure. It will prob take you down into the -30 degree range with both on.

Should you? That’s a totally different story

I have the vest but I don't use it for WT hunting. Puffy stuff gets compressed and loses much of it's heat value. I've used my Kenai with ok results but it also get compressed in spots.

FWIW I use fleece for layering under my Fanatic. More recent years a heated vest also.

I have used a low volume puffy (north face thermoball jacket) under a stratus jacket when my son wears the fanatic jacket we have, but when i wear the fanatic jacket it is always low volume mid layers such as the celcius midi jacket or a kuiu peloton jacket. Honestly this happens in my
Neck of the woods once or twice a year at most since it just doesnt get super cold in southern OK, but we do get an occassional dip into the low teens. Most of the time, the fanatic with a simple base layer is good enough for the 30’s we see regularly.

Just saw the Celcius Midi has been discontinued-I had been looking at that piece.

You'd probably have better luck doing that with the superdown ultra.. or I've been using an Eddie Bauer down jacket for everyday wear and my insulation out west. I have the one that is 800 fill and even it would be a little bulky under a fanatic, but I have their cirruslite down vest (which they also make in a jacket), and its a nice weight for adding just a little warmth. Its not as warm as the superdown ultra would be, but its also like $65.

I did see the Kenai setup from KUIU, that one's interesting as well. Should function better as an outer layer when it isnt as cold & can layer over the top when it does get nasty here

I think the question was about noise and not fit or warmth. My opinion is no, not quiet enough. The SD Pro is a lot less noisy than the Sitka Kelvin, but still too noisy for a bow hunter after whitetail. The Kenai is pretty quiet but not nearly as warm. I don't think you will find a shell fabric that can retain down that is quiet enough for bow hunting whitetail. Fleece is the way to go if quiet is the priority, its warm too, just bulky.

Makes sense. I wouldn’t necessarily need that piece to be super warm, when it’s real cold I’ll have it under my Fanatic anyway.

May put the Kenai over the top of one of their strongfleece layers when it’s super cold
