Super down ultra hooded jacket

What do you all think of the SUPER DOWN ULTRA HOODED JACKET? I'm looking for something with mid-level warmth but more than anything is packable. It seems like Kuiu doesn't put a lot of fill in theirs. Also, how is the durability? I'm comparing it to the Kuiu Cerium LT down hoodie and looking for solid colors. (kuiu in green looks pretty dang awesome).

I sold mine. i felt it leaves alot to be desired in a puffy.

sure in July or August it might work but for later in the year or colder weather it wasnt that warm for me.

i went with a pro, its more what i want. i feel that if i want a puffy im cold and want to warm up.

if i was heading up to the NWT in july then yeah it might work but for me i feel there are better options.

i would call it super light, super small, and low level warmth, niche item not a general purpose item.

the pro to me is mid-level, then my lost park is super warm. on my personal scale of puffys

Thanks for the feedback. That's why I initially ruled it out. The Arc'teryx has about 50% more down and still only weighs 3 oz more.

The Ultra is more than enough for me during archery,the Pro gets used during rifle.If you need more warmth than the Pro then I would guess you're looking at expedition weight garments.
What type/weight of down(Arc'teryx) is in these other garments you're comparing the Ultra and Pro to? also are they as packable?
I was just hunting the midwest for Whitetails,temps in 20's-30's, wearing the Ultra with a hard shell and I was fine for 3hr sits.
For me the Pro has been the bomb for warmth but then everyone is different.

I would use it in all kinds of conditions. Mostly when I need something very packable. I don't know how packable the Arc'teryx is but I will buy one and see. I want something that will take me to 20 degrees with just a light base layer and a 200 weight midlayer. Mostly for September bow hunting but keeping in mind that I might add another midlayer and take it into November-December. I'm a little cold blooded.

One more comment is that I work construction,it's been in the low teens every morning for the last week and barely getting above freezing by 3pm and I have been fine wearing my Ultra with a 200 merino shirt and a light work jacket,of course I'm always moving.
Kuiu is having a 50% off sale tomorrow,maybe SD will be in it?

Ive been testing the kuiu super down ultra hoody and the arcteryx cerium LT hoody. The arcteryx is slightly warmer and thicker, but yeah it has slightly more fill. Also has more of a silky face material, where the kuiu is more what I call tissue paper. Ive had both out in around 25 degrees, and i was warm. The kuiu definitely packs smaller. The sizing is whacked up. Im a medium in eveything, but the large kuiu *just fits. Probably going with XL. One other note, the arcteryx is not hydrophobic down. I do like both. The arcteryx seems like a higher end jacket. I may keep it just for hiking and everyday jacket. I think the kuiu would be great for what its design is. Just not crazy about the tissue paper "feel".

Well I loved both jackets and honestly didn't mind the feel of the Kuiu and it's super light. . . warmer than I thought but still not as warm as I think a down jacket should be. The Arc'teryx is just dialed for me. It's warmer and the fit is great. It also compresses to about the same size as the Kuiu even though it's a couple ounces heavier.

The deal is however, I've been looking at the Pro down more than the Ultra. I live in cold mountainous wintery area. I want to be able to use it winter mountaineering also. Am I shorting myself considerably with 50% less down warmth wise?
My hope is this thread is old enough but not too old that people have had a chance to wear both at some point to have a first hand review of both.

Go with the PRO or its equivalent.

I have the ULTRA and it works well for my needs. However, if I were to do it again I'd go straight to the PRO. While there is a weight and cost penalty, neither are that much more but you do get a lot more warmth.

For winter you would want the pro or something similar. Don’t get me wrong, I love my ultra, but it’s an archery season jacket or used as an extra layer in colder weather.

You can get something cheaper that is warmer. Lots of options out there. If light weight is your only concern then the ultra might be worth it.

You can find down jackets as warm for $50 if you look, and definitely $100. I think the Ghost Whisperer by MH is a better buy and has more down if you want something more packable. Ryan Avery and Tanya rave about that jacket and there is a reason why it's so popular.
