With an index release I know where it is at all times. I feel that I can hunt with gloves easier as well. With a thumb release I hated hunting with it (spot and stalk). I had too much to worry about, calls, range finder, binos, release. If I wanted to move I had to make sure that I had everything. With a wrist strap I don't have that issue. Look at the new Scott Verge. It's a two finger wrist strap trigger release that allows you to shoot easier with back tension. I love mine

Going to a handheld alone will not stop you from punching the trigger. I have used hinge, thumb, and index and I like the ‘like mike’ the best for hunting. It has around a 5 lb pull and is very consistent. Any style release can should be used with back tension. Good luck
