Will be around Healy AK in the middle of June and want to go fly fishing around there. Does anyone have a guide they've had a good experience with? Doesn't matter too much type of fish, grayling would be a blast though. Thanks!

Edit: I'll only have about a day and a half of free time, so will have to be close to there

There was an outfit in Cantwell, 20 min drive from Healy, for quite a few years called Denali Anglers or Denali Fly Fishing guides. Not sure if they are still operating or not.

Grayling are pretty much the only show in town. Any clear water stream, of which there are plenty, will have them. They eat just about anything that looks like a bug. Top water or nymphs.

DIY would not be hard to accomplish at all.

Driving out the Denali park road and fishing one of the clear streams around the Savage river is a good time. Don’t forget your bear spray.

No advice on fishing but I thought I'd mention one of my favorite books to read that has quite a few stories about Healy and the Savage River area. Alaska's Wolf Man: The 1915-55 Wilderness Adventures of Frank Glaser. If you have the time give it a shot!

I'd like to make it there one day, hope you catch some whoppers.

Read that book as well. Talk about a tough man. Incredible!

We visited Alaska two years ago. We drove up the Alaska highway and fished for grayling at pretty much every river and stream. Fishing was fantastic on both dry flies and small spinners
