Suggestions for budget friendly waders

I have never owned stocking foot waders and am assuming a person can just wear some old/cheap shoes or sandals with them?

Lost Creek waders with an old retired set of (oversized) hiking boots have always worked great for us. We fish the Kenai river hard every year, and I've been impressed with the durability to price ratio of the lost creeks when compared to other high end brands. I usually get 2-3 years out of a set, but I do a lot of sliding in/out of the boat and filleting fish in them so cuts are inevitable.

I've seen dudes wear old worn out shoes with them, but have to imagine they'd be tight unless they were somebody else's shoes because the stocking foot socks are neoprene. I like a tight fitting boot so my feet aren't slipping around in the mud and I don't have to walk funny, they're not high dollar so IMO it's worth buying a dedicated wading boot.
