Hi all,

I am looking for a very lightweight hunting rifle with an adjustable stock, or perhaps a negative comb, that is threaded to receive a suppressor and chambered in .270.

Why .270? It is what I use for most hunts now and I like it. I already have all the stuff for reloading too. I have thought about say the 6.5 PRC but that would require me to get a bunch more reloading equipment and the .270 seems functionally equivalent. I don't want to get into a caliber debate here, since that is covered elsewhere. For the current discussion, let's limit ourselves to the good ol .270

I would like the weight to be sub 5.5 pounds. I could go up to 6 for the right gun, but more than that doesn't feel truly light weight to me. Folding stocks are cool, and I wouldn't complain, but I don't need that feature.

I like the weight of the Kimber Mountain Ascent, but was un-enthused by the stock shape. I didn't have a great cheek weld and would need to modify it. I dont want to modify a rifle that costs >2k. I am open to 'modern' style guns; while I prefer the looks of the old style rifle, I really don't care about looks in a hunting rifle. I have red dozens of reviews now, but can't seem to find exactly what I am looking for.

TLDR of what I am looking for:
.270
sub 5.5 lbs
threaded for suppresor
<2.5k if possible (otherwise shoot the moon... but more than the low 3k range starts to get painful)
adjustable stock

Thanks for any feedback!

Tikka super light is just over 6 pounds. Gotta say a friend had one and it was terrible for recoil, but I am an admitted sisssy.

You could buy it and have it chopped, threaded, lightened by UM and find a stock. You be in budget.

Or, buy a lightweight 700 clone action like the AnTix or titanium, screw on prefit barrel, and pick your stock.

Like previous said a lightweight custom rem 700 clone can do this, but I think you could get close with a tikka.

Tikka T3 SL with the unknown munintions weight reduction and a PSE evolution stock should put you around that weight assuming everyone is being honest with their weights.

Thanks for the tips. I will look into both the Tikka and a 700 option. I had not really thought much about building something up but that seems like maybe the way to go. Cheers

Go find a used tikka in 270, cut and thread it, put an echelon stock on it. Done, and for way less than 2.5k.
No need to lighten the action to hit your target weight.

6.5PRC and 270 are ballistic twins at all hunting distances, so go with what you know. Although, a 5.5lb bare rifle(probably closer to 7.5lbs after scope and suppressor) 270 is going to have a good bit of recoil. Probably be very difficult to stay in the scope on a shot.

You will have to build it. If you could get a mfr to build a 5.5 pound rifle with those features in a LA cartridge......most people would shoot it like crap.

Recoil management and trigger control in a gun that snappy and light is not for everyone.

i doubt you're going to find sub 5.5lbs rifle in a chassis. Only ones I can think of off the top of my head that would fit what you're looking for are
Seekins element hunter
Fierce mountain reaper (buyer beware):ROFLMAO:

Or grab a tikka and a HNT26 chassis and be done with it.

My oldass Sportsman 78 270 with the factory 22" barrel sitting in a Peak 44 Blacktooth was right at 6# 1oz with zero other modifications. The 2nd pic is after I cut it 18". Your adjustable stock requirement is what will prevent you achieving your weight goal easily but you can get close with a short barrel.

If you don't end up with a chasis, the Peak44 has a slight negative comb. My blacktooth weighed 19oz. A Tikka superlite cut down some would probably get you in your weight range with some money left over for extras.

Go with a Tikka T3X Lite since you are shooting a long action round. About $650 for the base blued model at about 6.5lbs.

Send the barreled action to Unknown Munitions to have the action lightened, bolt heavily fluted, and factory barrel heavily fluted plus chopped to 16-18” and threaded. Then nitride the whole thing. That should shave at least half a pound. Costs about $600-800. Add a $10 upgraded trigger spring to reduce trigger weight.

Then swap the factory stock to a Rokstok Lite or Peak44 Bastion. That’ll save another quarter to a third pound. And you’ll end up with an absolutely awesome rifle. Stock is $600-800.

Total all in cost is about $2000-2300.

You’ll also save weight by using the factory bottom plastic and mag over a chassis. And get medium height Unknown Munitions rings.

If anything can compete with that setup, I’d be shocked.

The echelon is lighter and has a lot more negative comb.

I have a t3x lite cut to 16” coming back from Kampfeld this week. Also have the Bastion stock at 20 ozs. Give it a week and I’ll have it weighed and posted. I expect to be sub 8lbs when finished
S&B scope or Maven 1.2, UM rings, TBAC U7.

Do you have the Bastion or the Blacktooth?

The Savage lightweight storm is 5.6 lbs and is chambered in 270. It doesn’t come threaded but you could get it threaded by Savage’s custom shop or have it threaded by a gunsmith. The price isn’t ridiculous either.

I put one of mine in a pure precision adjustable stock, w/sling, 4 rounds, rail, rings and scope it’s 8lbs 2oz. In factory stock with a bear creek sleeve and foam riser it was 7lbs 4oz and honestly felt better.

Becareful with the micro steel barrels, you might not be able to get 5/8 threads, and might have to use a 1/2 to 5/8 adaptor… doable but not ideal
