Study finds Tatoo ink accumulates in Lymph nodes

I have sleeves.

I also breathed in trash pits overseas, ate sandwiches after cleaning my rifle with CLP, use nicotine, get crap sleep, eat food I shouldn't, and partied far too hard in my twenties.

I care about my health, but we live in a world where every two month study tells us that living life is going to kill us. So, why worry. Live it to your fullest and have no regerts.

I have a bunch of tattoos. I got when I was younger. If I could go back i would have not got them. But too late now. I don’t really have them where people can see them when have shirt on.

I always knew tattooed gals were more fun - who knew it was because ink collected in their lymph nodes?!

An animal study that isn't even looking at long term health outcomes, but rather a 2 month window following intermediary markers and lacks a control (in this case skin trauma without ink).

Complete healing takes up to 6 months, so not surprising the immune system showed alterations.

The vaccine response is interesting, but not really anything practice to do with it.

There are epidemiological studies that show correlation between tattoos and lymphoma in one and skin cancer in another. This could hold up, but that data looks too weak to firmly state causation.

People would be much better off avoiding tobacco, nicotine, alcohol, charred meats, and marijuana products. As well as exercising and getting adequate sleep.

No one should feel they are healthy because they don't have tattoos. But, this adds one more thing to be considered before deciding to get a tattoo. Though concerns about infection and being stuck with crappy body art should rank higher at this point.
Yeah, thats^ accurate. It's all degrees.

I do believe exposure to chemicals and solvents is a risk to our bodies.

Colored Tat ink contains carcinogens....many sources on that.

Does getting a colored Tat have the same effect on my body as the glass of wine I had last night at dinner?
I dunno......I hope not- grin

tats are just another "look at me" more than anything else.....and largely a complete waste of money. Want to look inclusive, get purple hair dye. It's cheaper and don't need to worry about wrinkly skin tats when you are 70.
But purple hair dye seriously increases your risk of being massively overweight.

Or is it the other way around? - grin

This stuff is kinda like playing russian roulette with a 50 shot revolver. Every poor choice is like tossing another bullet in the chamber.

I waited until I turned 50 to get my first tattoo, that way they're still fresh when I'm 80. They are kind of like tequila shots, it's hard to have just one...planning on #5 soon.

Life is all about choices, if you don't like them, or don't want the risk, don't get one. Pretty simple.

Cardiology diet: If it tastes good spit it out, if it is fun, don't do it. 😤

Or, I just need more joy for myself, as I learned the 1st Law of Joy Dynamics on a sub: Joy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred or changed from one form to another. Ergo if you need joy you must take it from others, and if you have joy you should hide it least others take it from you.

The bigger question, that will probably never be answered, is what inks cause long term issues.

Tattoos are pretty much a fixed dose and permanent, but everything else I listed isn't. There is nothing that says 1 glass of wine (or the single glass of eggnog and rum I had last night) is safe, but also no clear evidence to say that dose is harmful. You start getting into the 3+ standard drink range and that is causing issues (of course there will be individual variation). The amount of harm is dependent on the dose.

I have tattoos, they all have a personal meaning and I don't regret them 15-19 years later, they are reminders of how to approach life that I got for myself.

Risk is present in everything, we should try to reduce it, but zero risk doesn't exist and trying to get there is not always functional. The continuum between a reckless driver in an already unsafe vehicle and never getting in a car illustrates the point. One is unjustifiable, the other is dysfunctional.

The difficulty is when we don't understand the value someone else gets from something and push zero as the only option; or when we choose to ignore the risks to keep behaving how we want.

And for somethings zero is the only option because engaging hurts others directly.
