Hello everyone, I ran into a little dilemma. I was using my fat wrench when torquing my Leopold scope rings to my tikkas Piccanty rail. And during the course of this I ended up stripping one of the screws. I am since trying to back the screw out and unable to do so. This is the screw that attaches the base of the rings to the rail. Any suggestions? Preferably without damaging anything other than the screw itself.

Get a drill bit slightly larger than the screw body dia and drill thru the head. When the drill gets to the screw body the head will pop off. Remove the other screw, then the mount, then the remnant screw body.

Thanks. Excuse my ignorance, but wont that remnant portion of the screw body be very difficult to remove if its threaded in the sleeve?

Without any pressure holding it in it should back out very easily. Possibly with your fingers.

I think im going to grind a slit across the width of the head and try to get a flathead in there. Not sure what else to do at this point. Heres a picture of the screw as is. This one came out with no issues

I think the screw will too hard to drill. Grinding would be my choice.

Thanks. Im thinking of two ways:

1) grind a slot accross the screw and hope I can get a flathead in there to back the screw out.
2) grind the entire head off so the “keeper” is released (then I can take the base off) and then back The thread out if I plan to keep the rings but im fairly certain these are far beyond saving. Plus they are brand new and scuffed to high h3ll.

I would go with option 2, it sounds like the ring is beyond saving.
