Like the title says, when do I need to replace my strings?

I am fairly new to bow hunting. I hunted once, 3 years ago, the year I bought my bow (Bear Attitude) and I have not hunted with it since. This year I got my deer and elk tags in archery (In WA, we have OTC tags but you have to declare your weapon), because I'm hunting in Idaho with my rifle during modern deer and will be hunting with my dad (he drew a cow tag in AZ) during modern elk seasons.

I have waxed the strings but don't want to get out there or while practicing and have an issue.

Thanks!

Personally, I would recommend you take it into a good bow shop and ask them what they think. I think conventional wisdom says to replace every 2-3 years, but there are SO many factors: how much shooting you do, how you care for the bow, how you store the bow, etc. I always prefer the confidence of having had a pro look at my gear before I go out to use it.

I also have a back-up bow just in case!

Normally I get an indication that the strings are in need of replacing........i.e. something moves. However, this last week my PSE Freak blew up on me about 95% into my draw. The only thing that makes any sense is that one of the yoke loops broke at the axle and then all heck broke loose. It was definitely time to replace these (3 years and 30K+ shots) and I even had a new set sitting here......just wanted to finish out some 3D shoots and then replace them. Bad idea.
