Like M_Wyatt and Snowcamoman, I spent a little time with a X curve frame and the new 5900 bag.....It seems like the new frame transfers weight to the hips more comfortably and the cupping action of the belt adds a ton more comfort. The dual pulls on the belt have a lot to do with it but I also think the stiffer belt-to-frame interface plays a huge role.

I also think the forward pull belt is a great addition as well. It cinches down and stays put.

Not first hand experience but from the description and pictures it looks like the stays don't curve into your back at the lumbar pad but are instead bowed away? Not sure how they could bend that carbon twice but maybe its possible and my eyes are playing tricks on me. I really like the looks of the frame other than that spot mentioned above and the bag looks like the perfect stone glacier bag. Anyone know if there is a way to add compression to just the frame independent of the bag compression straps? Or maybe just skip one or two compression straps on the bag to get the load secured to the frame solid first then use the bag as more of load stabilization instead of having to smash everything to get the load secure enough?

Looks like a huge improvement to the belt design. I had constant issues with the 2" webbing folding over and compressing the foam in the middle of the belt causing the edges to flare out and loose contact with my waist. So the pack would sag for me. I bet with the new belt and curved frame the fit is much improved for those that don't have a flat back.

For sure - I had a very similar issue, and could never get good lumbar contact. The new dual pulls and curvature really solved those problems, for me at least.

Grumman, here are a few more photos of the 5900. These photos show the pack in Bivy mode with the lid removed, Bivy mode using the load shelf, and a front shot of the panel and spotting scope pocket. We will be adding new photos detailing the panel zipper opening to the main bag and the front spotting scope pocket opening.

Ak Troutbum, all past and present SG bags are compatible with the Xcurve frame. The load shelf and bags attach in the exact same way as well. The overall weight of the frame increased approximately 8 oz over the Krux.

Luke Browning, unfortunately the belt from the Xcurve will not fit on the Krux frame due to the new hip tensioners and new location of the 2” webbing.

Doverpack12, the Xcurve frame does have two curves in it to match the curves of the back. The lower region curves away from the back, the upper toward the back. We have had customers add second compression straps to the frame that can be used under the bag to secure the load. These are easy to attach using the Sky Top Compression strap kit we offer, they can be attached to the existing compression straps using the trislide buckle included.

Thanks for all the feedback and comments, let us know if there are any other questions we can help with.

I just got a message that the host server is having some issues, as soon as it is resolved I will give it another run. These same photos have been added to the 5900 product page as well, the link is below.
Thanks,
Kurt

Innovation is great. Except when you are ready to buy a new pack. I was trying to decide between Kifaru and SG. I was all ready to blow some Christmas money on a SG, but with a new frame out, I'm inclined to wait until there's a couple years of use on it before I get one.

There will probably be some SG for sale shortly with the look of the new frame/pack and the way people are talking about them. Pick one up used and save some money

I may need to visit my kid in Bozeman this semester and swing by SG to check out all their new stuff. When the Avail is back in stock I think I'm gonna order it because I want one for SAR and snow shoeing.

Is the 22" front vertical pocket incorporated for spotting scope on the inside of the pack or outside? I looked at the pics but couldn't tell. I have the smaller Sky but have been hoping for a new bag with a pocket on the outside. I never use the lid and would like quick access to some gear without taking my bow off the back.

The great thing about about SG and Kifaru is that they brutally test their equipment before it goes to market. They don't throw shit over the fence to see what happens. This frame has been in development for well over a year.

Pete, Kurt,
If I buy a new frame, is a detachable load shelf included? Are they included with the bags? Can you still buy one separate, because I have all the bags I need? Do the load shelves still retrofit onto my old frame?

Are those upper and lower straps Velcro down? Can we get some close up pics with some belt mounted goodies(pockets, water bottles...) installed.

The scope pocket is separate from the main bag.

Both the frame and the 5900 bag look awesome. If all bags work with the new frame, it's safe to assume the new 5900 will work on the KRUX frame?

That is true but is seems like there are always tweaks and changes that happen within a year or two of release to the public. I'm glad they brought out a new frame, but bummed that now I want to wait and see how the reviews come back.

Any pics of just the scope pocket open? I checked out the website but would like to see a few more pics of the pocket. Are there side pouches on both sides now for trekking poles or gun butt?

Why on earth would you be bummed??? Creating a product. Then sending it out for extensive testing and refining is how it should be. How else would you like an expensive item offered??

Do yourself a favor and don't wait. The Krux is already one of the best hunting frames ever made with very, very few negative reviews out there.

This new version will live up to the hype, period. I'd also venture to guess if any "changes" happen that Kurt & co. would work to apply those to your existing frame.

HuntAbsarokee – The 22” vertical pocket is on the outside of the pack, it is sized for largest of spotters, there is also extra room in this pocket for Swing Out pockets or soft goods like hat and gloves. There are side pouches on both sides for tripod, trekking poles, water bottle, or a rifle.

Tttoadman - The Load shelf is included with every frame, not with bags. The load shelf attaches in the exact same way, we did not change anything with the load shelf. The upper and lower straps do not have Velcro,. We didn’t find a need for them over the last year of testing, but we would be happy to send 4 webbing keepers at no charge if you prefer. We will work on the extra photos, but it may take us a bit as the store is a little short staffed with show season underway:)
