Just got an X-curve and Avail and have been looking into a few modifications and curious what anyone else has done..

I don't love the idea of the rubber webbing keepers that SG makes, and I can't stand all the straps hanging everywhere, so the first thing I did was took some velcro and made up some "webbing keepers" like other companies use, then modified the end of the straps so they had a loop for the velco, so now I can roll my webbing up and velcro it up.

I was also thinking about changing out the little string zipper pulls with the plastic loop ones, but haven't done that yet.

Third thing I am going to do is make up 2 little straps with female buckles on both sides that will clip into the frame straps when there is no pack on it so I don't have to mess around with changing the buckles on one side to females.

Anyone else?

I have pretty much left mine the way it is. I like the idea of the Velcro straps. I know Sitka does that with their packs. I might have to take the Velcro off my Sitka packs and put it on my SG's

Good idea. ;) Another one similar to that suggestion for other scenarios is I made a set up straps up like that with loops at frame width for the female buckles and then continued the straps further to male buckles. That allows me to tighten down a load against the frame on its own and then clip the bag into the extending straps w/o having to crush down the bag to hold the load. You can sort of see in this photo, the load is secured down on its own and those male buckles will clip into my bag.

Oh that's sweet! I like that idea as well.

And those hip pouches are awesome!

I used the two-sided velcro for strap organization, and i subbed out all of their pulls for orange 1.5mm cord. I never liked or needed the extra volume of the lid on the sky 5900, but it's needed for attaching a rack, so I had Pods build a low profile lid that is basically nothing more than two pieces of cordura contour-stitched together. I'll post a photo if you're interested.

I also swapped out the rubber for veclro webbing keepers. I took my belt webbing out of the trislide that SG loops it through as the power lock hip belt or whatever they call it. I installed some other buckles so i am able to loosen my belt while wearing it, and seems to tighten better for me.

Pics? I'm interested in this since I dont love the system they use.. I think I liked the webbing/buckle configuration on the Kuiu better.

The hip belt pockets that I have are the newer, one hand operated, ones and they don’t fit my phone. I like to have my phone handy because it’s what I bring to take photos, and I often use it for the GPS as well. So, while not actually a modification, I did add a DCF HMG shoulder pocket, and I think it’s the best addition that I’ve made to my pack thus far.

So like many of you I don’t love the rubber webbing keepers, so I ordered some from Exo and have been happier with those. I also have never been a huge fan of the gun sling by them for my style of hunting. So I had Pods8 make me like the Exo gun carrier for my Sky Talus 6900 and my 1800. I just change it to whichever one I use. I also took the 1800 and added buckles so I can attach a bag to the front of it to give me some more space.

He routed the strap through the black one around the gray to anchor that down, then through the buckle and back, the gray one is just a redirection point rather than having "bite" to it like the original black one.

Got some buckles in this morning and gave this mod a try. Now when I pull on the strap, it doesn't slide tighter through the center side release buckle, so when I let go of the strap, it just slides back to where it was. Is that how yours is, or am I missing something?

This pic shows what happens when I pull on the strap. It pulls the buckle closer, but the strap doesnt actually feed through it, it just creates slack on the back side.
