Stone Glacier Day Pack Options

Currently have a MR beartooth 80.

Looking at trying a different pack this year. And wanting a pack for day hunts so a smaller bag.

Looking into a Stone Glacier Approach 2800 or a Stone Glacier Solo 3600.

Also interested to hear anyone thoughts on other day pack frame options. Thanks everyone!

The Kiowa 3200 is my most used bag. I use it for ray hunts and every flight I get on.

I’ve had 3 different stone glaciers. Their frames blow companies like MR away and it’s not even close.

That said, their bag options kinda suck. I tried, I really did. As great as they pack meat, the bags just never feel buttoned up.

I picked up a Kuiu Pro 3600 this past year as a day bag/overnight bag and I’m flat tickled with the thing. That’s what I would recommend.

2800 is way more than I need or want so I had user Pods8 make a custom bag. That may be the best option if he or anyone else is currently doing custom bags.

For day hunts up to a couple day outing I'm liking my Col 4800, I like the bag layout and it gets small pretty easy.

What about the Avail 2200 from SG? Would that be too small and/or you aren't looking for an internal frame?

How much junk do you bring with you?

For day hunts I still think that Serac 1700 on whatever frame you prefer, is about perfect. It does get full fast though. Keeps you from dragging along crap you dont actually need

I'd probly go for a 2200, since it doesnt look like the Serac is made anymore.

I really like the 2800 on a X-Curve for day-2 day hunts that are expected to include packing out meat. But it’s definitely designed around guys who hunt with a spotter/tripod.

I like my Avail for day hikes and traveling. But I’d not want to pack a bear out with it.

The Avail attaches to any SG frame fairly easy. It makes a great day pack with the capability to haul loads on the way out. I equate it to a Kifaru Stryker XL.

I have both the 2800 and 3600,. I use the 2800 quite a bit for day hunts, though I do use the 3600 for late season hunts when I'm packing more layers. I can fit late season layers into the 2800, but it has to be carefully packed where I find just having a puffy jacket and pants stuffed in the top of bag for easy on and off to be much more efficient than having to carefully pack and unpack. It would be nice if the 2800 were lid compatible, however.

There are so many options with a standard frame setup. You could get a full size bag, like the 5900 and use it without a lid for a day pack, or if you want to go even smaller you could strap an access bag onto the frame for day trips. The cool thing about the SG bags is they compress super small or they can expand if needed.

The advantage of the 2800 or Avail is you have a very nice daypack when you don't need a frame. Yes the larger bags do cinch down nicely for day hunts (or shorter trips), but when a frame isn't needed you only have a bag, no daypack.

Most of us (all?) typically have a need for a daypack or travel bag outside (or even during) of hunting season, the 2800 or Avail provides that option.
