Stone Glacier 5900 too big for just day pack?

I have found that the lid is kind of awkward if the pack is empty and you have flashlights, gloves, or really anything in the lid. Other than that I have used the 5900 for plenty of day hunts with no issue.

I find this with most packs, I end up taking the lid off and stuffing it in the main bag.
