Stockys Tikka Carbon Fiber VG stocks

Whats the overall consensus on these stocks? Worth the $550 upgrade? Thinking about pulling the trigger and ordering one of the marbled color options for the 22 creedmoor. Seems like jumping to an Alpine or McMillan is now in the $700 range.

I've used multiple samples of the following brands on Tikka rifles over the last few years... McMillan, Manners, AG Composites, Mesa Altitude, and KRG.

For an all around general hunting rifle stock the Stockys VG2 and the Rokstock made by @Unknown Munitions are my personal favorites (very minimal use on the Rokstock but it's been really good so far).

Trigger reach is a little long for some, I don’t mind it. Other than that it’s a fantastic stock. I think they still have the rokslide30 promo code working as well. So sub $400. For that price it’s a no brainer.

I’d order the sendero/m24 profile barrel channel for more freefloatability. It’s a real word.

I got mine for $385 as bare carbon and it weighs 23-24 oz. The trigger reach was the only thing I wasn’t fond of, so I added some material to shorten the trigger reach to about 1.5” and painted it. It added about an ounce to the stock. I think it’s one of the better stocks available for Tikkas, and cost wise it’s certainly one of the most reasonable. The inletting was really good. Mine required a little (maybe a minute) sanding in the floor plate inlet. I bought the spotter barrel inlet which fit perfectly, but I opted to open it up for a slightly bigger free float. Took me 5-10 minutes with some sandpaper on a 3/4” socket to do it. Stocky’s offers inlets for multiple barrel profiles, so you can get what you want.

How many layers of epoxy do you have on there at this point? Just one? I want to do something like this with my Alterra. Unfortunately I tried that spray on truck bed liner and did not love it. I whish I had not done that as I put a couple of heavy coats. That marine Tex is just one thin...

Did anyone else feel the balance of rifles with this stock is very front heavy? This is without a can on the front. The rear is basically empty, they spray foam in there. I had a hard time shooting distance with it, it didn't seem to want to sit still on the rear end of the gun.

I’m still using it and have a had no cracks or chips. The paint has held on it as well. Have probably 1800 rounds through it since I did that, about 2k miles of riding on the floor of the back seat of my truck, and I killed a couple does with it.

Right on. I’ve got 3 of these to modify, I was thinking about trying some of the plumbers epoxy putty from Ace too. I think it’s about the same deal.

The stuff I used was really light and super tough, but you aren’t adding a lot of material.

I figured I’d add about 1/4-3/8” of material, and then do an epoxy texture job over it to seal it up.

I have 5-6 of the stockys vg hunter stocks. Remington, Howa and tikka. The Howa mini and the Remington are my favorite. The Howa 1500 and tikka are nice too but the forend is pretty blocky. They seem bigger then needed, especially for a sporter but that’s just an opinion and functionally probably better ad they are stiffer. I do prefer the flatter squared bottom of the Remingtons to the Howa 1500 and tikka but again purely my preference. I will say that none have come prefect. Some minor cosmetic issues but these are the raw carbon and if I painted them they would be fine. All of these get banged around hunting or riding incased so I just leave them and don’t worry about it. They are worth the 400 ish if you get them on sale. I would not put them up against more higher end competitors but they are very functional and the price point reflects that so I’m happy.

I started on a raw carbon Tikka stock and a 700 VG for my wife’s 6.5x47. This was actually pretty fun, I used the epoxy stick from Ace and was pretty surprised by how workable and solid it gets. probably needed to think out the texture areas a bit more but I think it’ll work great and look fine after paint.

19” 1-8” 22-250 will go in the raw carbon one.

I bought one of these as a blem on Black Friday last year for $258. I really like it and could not beat the price. It balances ok with a 20 inch carbon barrel.

Knocked the sharp off the texture a bit after about an hour and a half of setting up, and did the grip and texture on the 700 VG. Feels like this should be a very serviceable setup on both the Tikka and Remington.

Back to the regularly scheduled cabinetry and millwork…

still waiting for some suppressor direct thread adapters but got this thing degreased, loc tited, and barrel properly floated in the mean time… still deciding on some paint so it’s a rat rod for now. Feels really good with the added putty to the grip and texturing.

Did you happen to weigh the stock before and after modifications? Looks good, probably going to try the same to my tikka stock
