Stock wrap?

I have an early 80’s .300 Weatherby. While I love a shiny wood stock, I’m giving thought to vinyl wrapping this one. Used for black bear primarily. Thought about a synthetic stock but they’re pricey. Thoughts and recommendations? Thanks!

Whats your goal?
I'm guessing astetics and protecting the wood..

I've never used these but have been eyeballing them for years. All the reviews look pretty good.

Really want to kill the gloss and wood look. Since I don’t have anyone to pass it along to, I’m not really interested in being able to take it back to original.

I have used the gunskins and mossy oak gun skins. Done 3 rifles. the color was a little off (seemed whiter) on the gun skin camo (viper western) than what I was looking for. The mossy oak skins I like better but the camo is limited. I didn't want to mess with paint which is why I went with them. They look fine at first glance but there's some flaws in weird twists in covering the stock of you look close but that might be more usr error.

If it’s just an aesthetic thing, I would imagine you could do a Hydro dip or a wrap or simply rough it up with some 150 grit and paint it. A wrap is going to trap moisture against the wood so I dont think it will actually protect anything—I would make sure the inlet and barrel channel are well sealed before you did that. If it’s just the gloss you don’t like but the wood is OK, you or a gunsmith could strip the old finish off and put a nice new finish on it that wouldn’t be so glossy. It’s probably an epoxy finish which requires a fairly aggressive stripping agent, but it’s certainly doable.

You said you like shiny stocks?

What’s your reason for wrapping?

Last thing I would worry about is a Black bear catching sight of it, if that’s the concern.

Edit: Apologies, didn’t see your post that you wanted to get rid of the gloss and wood look. I don’t guess I’ve ever heard of anyone trying to get rid of the wood look, but I’d just Krylon it then.

I wrapped a Rem 870 turkey gun in the Mossy Oak rifle wrap and I have to say it turned out pretty good. I haven't had any issues with it being slick.
