The lever on my new Stevens 555 DB shotgun has become difficult to open. Out of the box it worked smoothly.
A gunsmith looked it over & couldn't find an issue, chalked it up to being an inexpensive gun...which it is.

Before I send this back to Savage (and wait forever) I wondered if any members have had the same issue or know of someone with the same problem.

I appreciate any input on this.

Thanks, John

From what I have read on the interwebz, these guns have a ton of problems when they come in from overseas. I would send it back to savage, otherwise you are going to be spending what the gun cost to have a gunsmith fix the issue. Not the answer you want to hear but its likely your cheapest option.

Many thanks, Spoonbill.
You're right...it's not what I want to hear but feared it would be the course of action.

I've emailed Savage and I'm waiting for a reply. Perhaps they can offer a solution that can be approached "locally." Although I know the chances of that happening is about the same as when pigs will fly.

I don't mind the send-back option but from what I've heard the "fix" time is going to be painful.
This...just as I was finally breaking 21-22 birds at each outing.

Thanks for your input.

It happens. My 20 gauge benelli broke on me under 200 rounds. A good friend of mine has sent his savage (not the 555) back a couple times and they have always done a good job fixing it.

That's good to hear.
I've got a phone # for Savage. I think I'll call rather than wait for an email reply.

I'd rather speak with a person. Emails can easily turn into multiple emails.

Have emailed Savage twice & no reply. They've been closed since the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
After many phone attempts I finally got a live person.

Unfortunately they've been hit hard by C-19. There is no one to talk with but I was assured they would reply to my emails.

Hope they've got a fix for me.
