So heading for a guys week in eastern Oregon to our cabin for our an annual event. We are doing a 3 gun event for bragging rights.
So, one of the guys has a bunch steel cases of .223 rounds and is willing to shoot them up. Are they going to “hurt” the black guns?
So far everything I’ve read is that they are just dirty rounds that could have the possibility of sticking in the chamber. That wouldn’t be a big deal in our situation.
Can they actually cause any damage? Or should we just shoot ‘em up?

No damage but they are dirty. They also tend to have a lacquer coating. If your chamber gets hot from a lot of shooting it can melt and a round can get stuck. I have had my extractor rip the rim off the spent case and I had to poke it out with a rod down the barrel. Soak the chamber with oil and run your bolt wet. Clean afterward and you will be fine.

Spent case might not eject because of how dirty they are. 1/4 brass rod solves that problem then you're back in business.
