Yeah, those 3x3 videos are kinda interesting.
Sure is a bunch of different configurations they can be set it.
Pretty much a pitch config for every weather condition.

Think I too will sew up a 10x10 and play around with it.

I like the Kifaru tarps myself better than the flat ones for a sleeping shelter. I've spent many nights in the Paratarp before getting the Megatarp, I really like it. The paratarp still goes as a "just in case" item when I don't plan to spend the night but want the option to, if I'm planning to camp I take the Megatarp. I used the Megatarp on a Canadian fishing trip a couple years back where we canoed and portaged to reach a lake in the middle of nowhere. Everyone with a tent and a Hennesey tarp strung over the tent managed to get water inside their shelter during one storm, the Megatarp kept me dry. I'm still not sure how they all got wet, their tent flys must not have been very waterproof anymore. Anyway I really like the room and size of the Megatarp for the weight.

We did have a 10x13 flat tarp we rigged up with a ridgeline and some guylines to trees as a place to get out of the rain and cook or hang out when it was storming to hard to fish. It was darn nice to have a place to do so, but I wouldn't want to have slept under it with a down bag.

The sheep tarp I think would be pretty narrow for what the OP wants to do. I'd want at least a 7ft wide one I think.

Thanks for bringing this up guys. I was planning on sewing up a Para/Supertarp style shelter, but I may just do a 9x9 or 10x10.

Found a couple more vids after seeing the ones linked above. Lots of similar variations but this guy shows my two "favourite" so far ;)

Yeah his second version is my favorite. Its a nice setup. Gotta make sure your tarp has a reinforced center line in the spot where your tracking poles go though or it may cause damage to the material I have some Xpac Material Im going to glue to my tarp for the trekking poles just to reinforce the tarp.

Here's a pic of my typical set up. Tight on the windward side and up a little on the other. I also use a bivy with my down bag. But that's as much for the wet spaniel as anything :).

Not at the moment. Sold it to a buddy a few weeks ago. Will probably grab another one and live with the smallish size. It's super versatile and really light.

It's a great choice for a solo emergency shelter, shade or rain cover, gear cover next to a hammock but I think it's gonna be too small to use as a hammock cover tarp. Maybe some hammock guys will jump in but I wouldn't think it's wide enough to cover it sufficiently.

I just received the Bear Paw tarp. I only have done a single pole/flat back set up so far but it has a ton of room. I didnt use any guy lines and that would make it even better. I will play around more after healing from a surgery a bit more.

Got out this weekend for a trip with the wife. setup the 10x10 in a few configurations that I like a lot. Will post the photos when I get back. surprising how versatile a 10x10 square cut tarp is for different shelter configurations. I am going to run with it this year for scouting trips.

SHTF,

Did you make any of the 3-sided enclosed shelters that we linked above? If so, what did you think about them from an interior space perspective? Also, any concerns about storm worthiness?

I'm curious if I'm the only one that uses the fly off their 4 season tent? I have a Hilleberg Nallo that has gobs of room and is bomber-proof just using the fly. I had around 1' of snow a couple seasons ago and everything was ok. I use a thin painters plastic for a floor and it only weighs around 2 1/2 lbs. Not bad and a lot more secure than a tarp! I've had several 4 season tents over the years that I could set up the fly without the tent body and all worked well for early fall scouting/hunting.

No, I've done it before, but the room to weight ratio still favors the tarp. By at least a pound. And most here will use trekking poles, which they are already carrying, to support the tarp and as long as it's staked well, shouldn't have any issues with storm worthiness.

I did I did indeed. Here is some pics of the pitches I was able to get done.

Here is the 3 sided with no back wall. its tight. Limited space it works I could make it work for my 6 foot frame but Id rather do something a bit different.

From the back

Side as you can see no space and it slopes down big time. Thats the wife popping off some rounds from her 9mm in the background.

Another view from the other side

Here is the pitch with a back wall. Much better. Id use this pitch without question. Plenty of room for me and gear. Having the back wall makes a huge difference. I set my front pole to 53 inches back one is maybe 28 inches. So you still get the weather to roll off.

Setup IM using this year for scouting and quick ultralight trips. The 32 ounce Nalgene is for reference.
