Hi all,
Curious what folks do when traveling on a multistate trip that includes California when traveling with a suppressor. It is registered to me only, no trust. I figure in the worst case I can mail it to myself, but that’s still a bit of a hassle, because I’ll want it before going home. Anyone run into this issue? Thanks for the help as always.

I’d just literally stash it in the forest somewhere before you enter Ca. Would be incredibly easy to do. Put it in a ziplock, burry it or put it in a stump. Mark it on OnX as a waypoint. Retrieve it your way home. If anyone were to ever ask, you lost it while out out on a hike. I wouldn’t make a big deal about it.

If I were driving, and I had no other option, then I would put it in a locked box and I would not volunteer that information to anyone. I most certainly wouldn't announce it online somewhere.

It's not legal advice. It's not a constitutional law. You have the option to comply, or not comply. Either don't travel to that destination, don't travel to that destination with possession of the item, or don't advertise your intent to not comply with the law.

My opinion: it’s not worth it. No one would likely know, but it would really suck if it was discovered by the wrong person.

Free men don't ask permission; you do not have to follow unconstitutional laws.

Also, you can still go to BF prison if caught breaking them, so proceed with caution. Good luck! :)

I live a few miles away from Illinois so I’ve been here before. I picked up the phone and called the IL State Patrol to see what was permissible. They said long as it’s locked in your vehicle and you’re traveling (I believe he said “interstate travel”) there shouldn’t be a problem. I also shot a match with a guy was in IL law enforcement that confirmed what I was told.
