Two buddies and I are heading out on a 60+ mile 4 day backpacking trip tomorrow am. About 85%off trail across some of the most rugged country in western Montana. Should be a good one! Hopefully we will find some bucks and bulls too. Will post some pics next week if guys are interested. Should be more than a good test for my Hanvag mtn lights with the synergy footbeds.

Well, unfortunately we had to cut our trip short due to a knee injury. My buddy's knee started bothering him about 2/3 through the first day and got progressively worse. We made it to a good spot to camp that evening and the next morning his knee felt better so we kept going. We made it about 5 more miles cross country before the pain was more than he could take and decided it would be best to bail. Fortunately we made it to a peak which is one of the few places we could get cell service and called for a pickup at the bottom of the nearest drainage out. It still was a great hike and a good chance to dial in the lightweight backpacking kit. Found a couple decent bucks too..
Will put some pictures up hopefully tomorrow.

About 3.5 miles beyond that arrow in the background is where we started at a trailhead on Friday morning. About 3/4 of that distance was on trail.

The lake we camped next to on Friday night. 14.8 miles according to my GPS from start... Beautiful night with a clear sky and big moon. Wind gusted all night, continually waking me up. I was so tired I forgot to take any pictures of camp.

Mid-morning on Saturday; surveying the next section of ridgeline as we headed north...

Jim getting out his camera again, below the peak from which we were able to get cell service.

Looking north where the remainder of our trip would have taken us had we been able to continue.

Just over the ridge that the arrow is pointing to is the lake that we camped at Friday night.
