I am in the desert and the dry ground and plants make be feel like my foot steps are pretty loud. Is anyone using stalkisins or other "quite footwear" for final approach on a stalk? Are their better alternatives? Or is it just another gimmick?

I have and use both stalkasins and skinners knockoffs from amazon. I prefer the skinners as I think they are slightly quieter, and the rubber bottom is good for grip or if there is any moisture on the ground. I use the stalkasins mostly around home as we have a ton of cheatgrass, and foxtail type stickers that get stuck in the skinners upper fabric.

They aren't the quietest option, but the advantage is that they're tough/protective enough to walk a long ways in them. I've walked miles in mine several times and they handle it really well. If there are a lot of thorns etc they're a good option.

I’ve tried a bunch of different things but have had the best luck with the stalkasins. There’s pros and cons to any of them but I feel like they’re the best balance of durability but still quiet. The main reason I’ve used them is the lace up fit can fit really well and not have any slop like alternatives I’ve tried when traversing more tricky terrain. I’ve blown stalks from slipping in just my oversized wool sucks I used to just use so I like the athletic fit I can kinda dig my feet in sidehilling if that makes sense
