Stalker Stickbows????

Worth the wait….South knocked these outta the park. Will get some knock sets and silencers tied on once I get the kiddos to bed tonight and get her tuned up in the shop.

Pretty much exactly what I had in my head and he crushed it like always. Acs longbow limbs will be used for a back up if I had to guess. Can’t sell em since I killed a pile of critters with them, but these things are gunna be rocket ships at my draw length!

Dang BHC, thats a beauty!
Thanks, it’s really one of those wood combos that pictures don’t do it justice. Even my wife is who is not amused or cares about the dozens of bows I’ve owned over the years commented how gorgeous this one turned out.

I can’t wait to put it through its paces this year! Still time to chase pigs and will break it in chasing mule deer this fall if I had to guess.

Very nice! What’s your setup/tune? Thoughts on the 56” limbs? Mine are 58” and want to try the 56” My draw is similar to yours at 26”

Same arrow I’ve ran forever.

Gold tip warriors / hunters. 500 spine. 26.5 carbon to carbon? Gotta double check. Standard insert, 250 grain vpa or 150 brass insert and 100 grain head.

Finished weight is around 485ish with the 250 head and insert and 475ish with the 150 brass 100 grain heads. They tune the same. Initial tune shows slightly weak with the puff balls which are 20 grains each. I will tune that out either with some heavier whiskers or run 4 smaller yarn balls. Have the brace at 7 1/2 to start since it’s a fresh string. Might even end up at 7- 7 1/4 and tune perfect. Right now i got 40 grains on the string, im thinking 60 would make it a perfect tune, although ive never had an issue with a touch weak bareshaft at 20 yards.

I’ve had a 62,58,56 inch coyote sl , a 58 inch wolverine fxt, and my 60 inch acs longbow limbs for this riser.

I’m sold on the shorter limbs. If I order another bow from South I’m actually gunna order a 13 inch coyote riser and make a 54 inch recurve. He told me I would see no speed or performance difference with the 13 inch riser compared to my 15 inch riser and 56 limbs, they are the exact same limbs. The riser difference is what makes them 54 inches on the shorter riser.

I already had the riser so it was wayyyy cheaper to have him make me these limbs compared to new bow.

The smaller lengths just fit my short draw length better and I prefer em for tree stand hunting, shooting pigs from my knees, crawling and spot and stalking for mule deer.

I have a custom 52 inch pika I had Dan make me for my draw length, it shoots nice, I’m a fan of Souths bows in general though. His grip just fits me and the g10 in the fxt risers add some mass. I have a gunshy in route to add even more weight to the toelke but it’s going on my stalker as well.

As much as I like the toelke I get feather contact on my knuckle at times, have to really pay attention to my grip and it’s not even a thought on Souths bows. I’m gunna try to build the shelf up on the toelke and see if I can tune it out. Possible raise the knock height.

Overall this bow is a stunner and I’ve had more bows then any man should, I can get a pretty good feel for em just in a few minutes shooting them and setting them up. This things is gunna be a critter killer. It took me a couple years of testing and really deciding what I wanted, but it’s everything i wanted and more.

Did South tell you that you will see a performance difference going to a 56” vs a 58-60” at the same weight?

Ya the 56 would be faster since it’s a shorter limb. You’re talking small speeds though 5-10 fps depending on draw lengths.

I was initially going to go with his super curves, but the super curves with wood veeners are actually slower then static tips, and I didn’t want a full carbon limb, plus he doesn’t make them in 56 inch.

I think since my draw is so short I can’t feel a smoothness difference from my 56 limbs compared to the 62, except these 56 are way faster all things equal.

yep, it has been common knowledge that all else being equal the shorter limbs would gain a little more performance. However BlackWidow Bows stated on one of their videos that with their testing they see no performance difference.

I was curious what was South’s take on it. I would be surprised however if you could get 10 fps more🤷‍♂️

10 is gunna be for the long draw guys if I had to guess. I know these things are smoking compared to my toelke pika lol. A good 15-20 fps faster. Gotta break the chrono out, outside when I get time. Lighting in my shop is hit and miss for chrono speeds and I don’t trust em as much as pure sunlight. Initially in the shop they are 15-20fps higher though. Impressed for sure.

I added a thicker strike plate last night with leather and got the bareshafts flying like lasers at 25. Need to stretch it to 30/40 yards outside but super busy with work, kids, life, and it’s dark by the time I’ve got to mess with it. Added in the cold temps, I’m staying my butt in the shop lol.

I would like to see a comparison of different custom bows performance differences. One with different limb lengths and one with different draw lengths with all other things being equal.
