Staball 6.5 as good as they say?

Am I mistaken in thinking their app data is typically very slow compared to other Win/Hog/IMR/Alliant powders? At least in cartridges like 6.5cm,6cm,243, etc. 223 seemed about normal

Someone a while ago told me it was because the Europeans have different pressure standards but I could have misheard

I use the hornady data and they have data for N555. I find that about 2 grains over H4350 is equal to H4350 load data

I wasn’t really paying attention to temp stability, but my Tikka in 30-06 liked it with 165g Sierra SBT’s, and my brothers same rifle 178g ELDX. Very good velocity in both rifles and certainly accurate enough for hunting. Shot in weather conditions from fair high 80’s to shitty and snowing. Probably 800 rounds between the two rifles.

We both have T3’s in 7-08 shooting 150g ELDX. Velocities around 2780 ish, 1.25 moa very consistently. Shot in conditions from mid eighties to near freezing, porbaly 3 times a month since July. Also around 7-800 rounds. I’ve developed another load using Sierra 150g SBTs. Haven’t shot that many yet.

Ran a few hundred rounds through two different .243’s. Also no problems.

So it’s versatile and available. And I’ve gone through about twelve pounds of It in the three different calibers. It seems to run a little dirty, leaving dark marks around the neck. But I’m kinda new to reloading so maybe most powders do this? I’d agree that it’s a little spiky when you get into pressure so I stay well below max loads.

So I’ll throw this out here. Do you guys think it runs dirty?

Edit: I did some math and revised my round counts.

I couldn't get Staball HD to work in my 300prc and kind of wrote off the whole lineup. But @Gstew1930 was telling me the velocities he was getting with his short barreled 6.5cm and I was impressed. I'll pick up a pound of it and see what I can do out of my 18"er.

If not, I have a good load worked up with H4350, the good ol standby. I'll try some N555 as well. I can get some good velocity out of my 6 creed with 95BTs with that stuff too. I'm getting tired of chasing velocity and then running into pressure problems. I'm about to just stop messing with it when I get to a charge that produces a good group and call it a day. At least..... that's what I tell myself.

I run all SRP brass for my creedmoors. Lapua for my 6.5 and Alpha and Peterson for my 6. Has anyone found a correlation to this powder and small/large primers? Figured it might like a hotter primer.

Im right there with you. Also the more I shoot the more I hate reloading lol. Staball has been good for me. Just dont push it to hard

I tried some a few weeks ago with that 16" barrel that wasn't shooting well.

I need to get back on it. I was here for .5gr off pressure:

2.770OAL 45gr Staball 6.5…around 2875 (Jump is .082)

If I can get 1.5" MOA with the Harrell's powder dropper I can make some concessions and be satisfied over trickling H4350 into the wee hours.

I might be on my last legs reloading...never get the time back.

I found it to be very inconsistent with 6.5cm using Peterson SRP brass and CCI 400 primers.
I just went to using H4350

Have good luck with Staball65 in 65CM and 260. Bought a bunch of SB65 when H4350 was hard to find.

I’ve seen it be a mixed bag with the VV data.
Some (their 6.5creedmoor data) has been very conservative.
Others (their 223 bolt gun data) popped primers with below max charges.

I just got my hands on a 22-250 barrel tikka, I’m going to spin that on an action and give SB 6.5 a go with 77tmk since I have 500 of them.

I’ll give a report once my brass shows up and I get this barrel spun up.

To expand on my original post. I ran 300 rounds of it with 150eldx and 162 eldm/eldx. I was up around 2840fps with the 150 and 2750 with the 162’s. All spring and summer on the coast so a hot day for me is 80. Only weirdness that I ever ran into is I got the idea to try mag primers for 5 rounds and got very stiff bolt lift with no excessive velocity recorded 162 Eldx. Just went back to CCI 200’s and no more problems. Tikka OEM 7mm08 barrel

It's a lot more temp stable than I thought. All summer i was averaging around 2875 with 127 lrx and today I tried it out at -17c and it was still right in there. And I let the ammo get to the colder temp before shooting.
