I used to fly into STL to visit a friend on the way to Texas hog hunts.
Cold AF sometimes this time of year. Lots to do and see.

Two warnings:

You can't (couldn't) get a decent bourbon and ginger because they have their own crazy idea of what ginger ale is...

and some restaurants won't serve meat on Fridays during Lent ---which is not your problem timing-wise this year.

So if you'd like a drink with your steak or ribs, do your homework!

Grew up an hour outside of STL but moved across the country 20 years ago. Depending on what you and your family are into, the zoo, science center and art museum are all in close proximity to one another and are free. All are also of high quality. Not the equivalent of the MET, but nothing to sneeze at. Your kids will love city museum.

I like my bourbon straight, but I also enjoy ginger ale...

I just about threw up thinking of drinking bourbon and ginger ale. Oh my god.

The AB brewery and stables was cool.

Of course see the arch.

The best craft beer in the STL area is at Friendship Brewing in Wentzville. They also have a place out in Flint Hills.

It is a bit outside the city, but it is worth it.

Years ago, when I was like 25 I dated a girl from there, she always talked about how awesome it was. I went a few times, we mostly drank, went to bars and drank, went to cardinals games and drank, went to see Clydesdale horses at anguished Busch and drank…that’s really all there was to it.

The Cahokia mounds were cool, those are sort of near St. Louis and I went to a McDonald’s that was on a riverboat, I thought it would be cool but it’s like going to any other McDonald’s. You’re just on some a riverboat. Not sure why I though it would be cool.

I went to a dive bar there that only served those wide mouth mickeys malt liquor things. I thought it was cool at the time but not that I’m in my mid 40s it seems really lame.

With two kids under 13, top recommendation is most definitely the City Museum. Definitely a unique experience that most kids will remember for a long time. The zoo is a great option as well.

Pointers pizza in Kirkwood will serve you a big BIG pizza. Box almost touched both door frames as they carried it out to my car.

My husband was there for a AB meeting and downtown basically shuts down in the off season. Restaurants staff extremely low so they had trouble finding places to eat the couple days they were there.

The Art Museum is a good one, as are the Botanical Gardens. The Arch is sort of a must see, and the St. Louis Symphony is world class. For me, that's about it.
