New guy here. Been reading a lot but never posted. Know a lot of the opinions here about some brands over others.

Have been looking for a 6.5 this summer. Had a weatherby 307 that missed the mark on expectations and sent it back. Recently been wooed by the Springfield Redline version of the waypoint with the 20” barrel in 6.5cm

Reviews mixed, but most of those older and more on the PRC versions.

Don’t really want the same experience I had with the last one again…have things gotten better with the waypoint actions end to pursue one?

My goal is a deer or steel gun that with scope (no bipod) comes in under 9#, 6.5cm, 20-22” barrel, threaded. Would like to be a good suppressor host…so no pencil barrel, prefer no adapter to get it to 5/8-24. Mostly a hunting rifle but want the ability to go shoot a casual NRL type match that a local range occasionally hosts.

Redline more or less at or slightly above what I was hoping to spend at the $1500 mark, but offers several features I’d liked. Other option was a tikka and trick it some after it proved itself, but hadn’t found a 20” or 22” cm version in SS. Seekins PH2 on the Scheels close outs has been a consideration but only find a 24” version.

I have a waypoint in 6.5 prc. It has had a few issues mainly had a carbon ring build up in the chamber. That was causing primers to blow and some pressure issues. I sent it to Springfield and they fixed it and had no issues since. The fluted action collects dust and makes the action feel gritty. With the flutted action it mars up the casings in the magazine until the action gets worn in a bit. Roughly around 300 rounds it seems to smooth out.
I have close to 600 rounds through mine right now and it shoots dead nuts every time. Farthest shot I took on animals was a cow elk at 650 dropped her in her tracks. Using the 147 eldms. I highly recommend the waypoint.

Waypoint 6.5PRC owner here. I've harvested 20+ deer and elk with it since purchasing in 2022.
It loves Barnes LRX 127gr factory loads and I used it to take my bull this year at 510yd.

My action is buttery smooth, not gritty at all...and I likely have around 300 rounds through it. However, I run a scopeshield scope cover that slightly protects the action.

I did have to replace the trigger as the factory Trigger tech Field had an issue where the safety locked up, but trigger tech replaced it, and at the same time I upgraded to a Diamond 2 stage.

I run the Hawkins 3rd magazine flawlessly as I didn't like the AICS metal mag rattle.

My only gripe is that I wish it was a 20" barrel. Running a can, it gets a bit long and heavy for the whitetail woods.

Would I buy it again? In a heartbeat.
